Ok I hear about all this photo shop stuff so I decide to get it and try it out. so I try it out but I couldn't find any effects I like in paint shop pro like Bevels, and buttonize. I loved those effects! but I don't see them in adobe photo shop. If I need a plug in to help me get these effects can someone tell me what it is because I am stuck.

Provided you are using adobe 5 or later, the bevels are not in the filters category. Instead, in the layers table , right click a layer and a pop up menu will reveal the "Layer effects" option. From there you can access a plethora of overused and tired Bevels, Drop shadows, and glows.
Its also in the Photoshop manual which
you should have on your lap right now because you OWN photoshop right? http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif
AND PLEASE-
Beware you do not fall THE trap many hapless designers get pulled into-

because photoshop has more powerfull features like layer masks, vector graphics support (in 6.0), a hell of a lot of effects (called 'blending modes' in 6.0)..
going from 5.5 to 6.0.. it has more changes than i thought it would.

are there any features in photo shop that make a picture look like its popping out at you. sorry for asking but with all the new features in 6.0 I am very lost! this is my first time with photo shop.

i think that paint shop is made more for fast simple premade effects, while photoshop is made for complex effects for complex designs and uses.

Jayn, you're gonna LOVE photoshop. Think of me when you use it! http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Does that mean you are only somewhat user- friendly, deep, and lots of capability? http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif
Alas, I have downloaded Warez in the past, but since i make my living with photoshop,
i own a legit copy. It will be a tiny bit of savin before I get 6.

Chev....I'll think about you even when I'm not using it http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif
Warez....I'm afraid my only attempt at those introduced me to the dark, seamy underworld of....gazillions of Britney Spears nudie pics http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/eek.gif! I apparently don't know what I'm doing when it comes to warez, so I've just never tried again.

FFS.
Kenny: In Photoshop, select the area you want to "buttonise", go to the LAYER menu, scroll down to EFFECTS, and choose BEVEL AND EMBOSS.
It's not that hard after you've done it once.

Now I selected the layer. But it didn't buttonize the layer it just made the paint brush paint a box. Do I have to do it manually by using the paint brush?
Now I see why skins take so long to make. and I am just making an anime skin and been working on it for the past two weeks because I can't get my Buttons right! Damn this is fustrating!

Raj - Believe me I REALLY feel your pain
with the filters.
Thats why I posted that very legitimate article above ... quite possibly the most TRUE thing the onion ever published.

So Xerxes,
Do you think it would be a good idea to start up a support group for filter addicts? I know I'd be there. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

P.S. Speaking of which, I'm thinking along the lines of cold filtered right now. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I am willing to admit that I too... was
once a filter addict. The year was 1997, and
I had an unhealthy obsessionon with KPT
Page curl. I used it on nearly everything-
Then one day I was flipping through the
pages of my design portfolio (I keep a copy
of everything I do of course) and came to
the shocking revelation that - Everything
looked the same! It was pages and pages...
of the same thing!
From then on I have resolved to only use filters in the most subtle of ways. If the
filter in effect was the focus of the design
(Which page curl always was) it had gone to
far.
So if you start a support group, maybe I will
be the moderator... a reformed addict as it
were. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif YOU TOO CAN BREAK THE CHAINS OF
CFD! (CHRONIC FILTER DEPENDENCE!) http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

Puhlease don't rely too heavily on Bevel&Emboss!
Try the other stuff, specially experimentations with drop shadows and inner and outer glow..........it goes a long way!!!!!
