View Full Version : Crashes every time I load transcoder

I am converting flac files to mp3 files, and have installed the plugin "transcoder v 0.6".

Everytime I try to change the configuration, my computer freezes and I have to do the "End Program" thing.

What is going on? How can I solve this?

Hmmm... are you referring to The Winamp Transcoder (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=146195) by Will Fisher? 3rd-party plugins aren't supported here, but based on the last few reviews there (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=146195&show=reviews), it would appear as if something changed with the advent of Winamp 5.24, whereby the author (Will Fisher) will need to update the plugin to work properly. Most reviews before the latest Winamp release appear to have been good. You can contact Will Fisher (http://www.winamp.com/user/view.php?uid=283934) to bring this to his attention, and hopefully, he can address this.

*Note: In addition to the Transcoder plugin (which appears to no longer be working properly), DJ Egg has recommended (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=1808125#post1808125) that you can also use one of several MP3 Output plugins...Originally posted by DJ Egg
...Or one of these MP3 Output plugins (preferably out_lame or out_enc)

Though I personally don't recommend transcoding anything, unless you're doing it from a lossless format (wav, flac, shn, etc) and keeping the originals, or if you need to convert to mp3 because eg. your portable mp3 player doesn't support whatever format the files are currently in, heh.*** Can a Moderator move this thread from Winamp Tech Support to Winamp Discussion instead, since this thread deals with a 3rd-party authored plugin?

Thread moved as requested.

The Transcoder (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=218903&highlight=transcoder) plugin is broken as from v5.23.

Work has already begun on a native Transcoder API, hopefully for 5.25
(see page 3 of Transcoder thread for details).

Yup, for now, just use an MP3 Output plugin instead.

Thanks guys. Strangely after about 6 attemps, I got it working. However,I'd rather not waste my time trying over and over again. I'll go download that mp3 output plugin.

Thanks once again. you guys sure know your stuff!
