Avoid it.
1. It's slow (and can make you yawn).
2. I don't know, some spice is missing or something.. Everything has already been seen.
3. I don't like the new actor's face (I know it's very subjective).
He looks more like a bouncer rather than a spy... He doesn't look like James Bond : he has no charm at all.
4. the love story between James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) is not well implemented.
5. the poker party has no suspens at all.
6. it's not funny, not even a simple joke..

Is it really that bad? (haven't seen it myself) Rotten Tomatoes (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/******_royale/) gave it a 94%.

Well, it's not a bad movie, but not a fantastic one (imho).
It renews the James Bond series but if you compare it to other modern action movies, it's just "decent".

Don't listen to this guy.
It's easily one of the best movies of the year and the best Bond movie in at least a decade.

There was one joke I remember:
"That last hand nearly killed me."
I'm not sure where I would place it amongst the other Bond movies, but it is better than ***** would have one believe. Craig is certainly better than Dalton.
I thought Brosnan's first outing was a bit stiff, but he got better. I think Craig will follow suit.
I wish Lazenby had done another one. OHMSS is still one of my favorites.
Another moment that brought a chuckle from the audience was when M wonders aloud (something to the effect of), "Where does he get this information?", after he hacks her computer. (He had already found out where she lived, broke into her house and discovered her real name.)

Agreed, this guy is hating, Best bond movie out of all of them, a real refresher for the series!

Well, in my opinion (and it's subjective) it's not a bad movie, but just a decent one.
I can understand it changes a lot from the other movies (with Brosnan for example), and that some (well, it seems, many) of you liked these refreshing modifications, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
Or maybe I wasnot in the mood, maybe I expected something else. :p

I agree that it certainly is leaps and bounds better than the recent crap the Bond series has been.
Maybe it's just that I grow up knowing Brosnan to be bond, but I don't think I like Daniel Craig as much.
Still a great movie though. The Bond series desperately needed something like this.
//What I'm confused about though, is why it seemed to take place in present day but is supposed to be about before he was 007. . .

The film was okay in my opinion. I found it a little irritating that Bond is suddenly a blonde after years and years of dark haired actors filling the role, but I was able to look past that after a few minutes... :p
I agree with k_rock that the film was more interesting than the last few. I didn't especially enjoy Brosnan as bond, nor the storylines in those films.

your review seems to be really out of proportion... maybe you saw other film?

It's a reset of the series. It's not in direct continuity with the others.
See: Batman Begins
I don't have much of an opinion on it. It was the first Bond film I've seen all the way through, and it seemed to me to be an okay film, but not as exciting (or even intriguing) as I would have expected.

I thought it was a good return to the fundamentals of Bond.

It's much different from the other bond movies, but it's still very good. I like at the end when he blasts the guy's legs to banannas with a machine gun, i mean you'd never see it coming. it's so suspenseful, although i must admit that tha poker part was kinda boring.

After Roger Moore left, I though Peirce Brosnan would have been perfect if it had worked out. I liked Timothy Dalton, and by the time Peirce Brosnan took the role, he just seems to have lost his luster from the Remington Steele days.
I pretty much lost my taste for bond movies after Timothy Dalton left. I think the last Bone movie I liked was Living Daylights.

Its a typical bond film. Nothing more than that.

That's the most inaccurate account of ****** Royale that anyone has posted on all of the internets.

I watched it a couple weeks ago. It was okay. It needed a bunch more hi-tech shit in it. I want a Bond with 22nd century tech.
Bond meets Mission Impossible meets Terminator. Maybe a little Doctor Who, 10th Doctor (David Tennant) style.
ElChevelle

The next Bond flick will have more tech now that the basic background of Bond has been laid.

It was OK as Bond movies go.
Daniel Craig has lots of upward potential as he settles into a very difficult role (he will always be compared to Sean Connery).
