I read somewhere on the forum a few weeks back that a developer was working on a update to sc_trans. Anymore news on this? I'd love to be able to keep up to date and track the development of sc_trans 2.0 if there such a product under way. Its time we got a sc_trans update.

There currently is no development on sc_trans, or much of anything SHOUTcast related

The other day I read a thread where one of the SHOUTcast people mentioned he was working on a sc_trans update, a complete overhaul - so this statement is completely wrong.
I will go searching for the link now...

Tag said,
I have begun work on revamping sc_trans(I wrote it in the first place). WAV, MP3, OGG, AAC(+), FLAC input... Multiple AAC+, MP3, OGG output-to-servers. Web interface. Remote DJ control (ala dsp_sc). Live Archival. 'Industry Hour Wheel' style promotional shotguns/ad's. Multi-level "Guest Mp3j" support. Crossfade rulesets (eg: Less than 30 second clip, dont x-fade into, or out of).
Please let me know what other features you'd like to see in sc_trans 2.0
Sounds good, maybe we can get an update from Tag?

something tells me this is going to go like the old redhat releases: it will be ready when it is ready.
Just be thankful it is being worked on.

or you could, with quite minimal searching hash something together yourself .... with the exception of NSV there are quite a few open source tools available ...

just stumbled across this post yes tag is working on a new version of sc_trans and it sounds like it will kick ass!
ive found nothing that is as robust as sc_trans.
Although you will many times on this forum ,see "muse" and other similar software these posts are all by the same users.
Sc_trans just simply works on most linux based O.S
thats why i cant wait for tag to finish in his own time :).
The other software that other people plug doesnt work
"out the box" like sc_trans so most times i avoid them.
p.s this does not mean i cant install the libs and other
junk needed to make other software work.
just seems silly to do when there is a piece of software
like sc_trans.

Although sc_trans is good - it also has some big problems.
Such as the whole samplerate issue... and the ID3 tag problems, also the fairly high CPU requirements.
The fact that its called 'sc_trans' and it doesn't actually transcode streams is also a shame, an 'official' stream transcoding tool from nullsoft would be good - for both Linux AND Windows I gues...

Ok. Fine. I agree. I push MuSE. Sometimes it works for people and sometimes, depending upon what they are after, it is the best solution.
Do I use it: No.
Is it a pain in the ass to use: Yes.
What is the best way to use it: With the dyne::bolic live distro.
sc_trans is a transcoder. It is just exceptionally limited with what it can currently do, which, i would guess, is why people are currently working on changing that....

yorkshire common sense !:D
ye i agree cpu and the ID3 problem can be a pain
but i still find sc_trans robust compared to other methods.
and im sure tag will include stream transcoding features
sounds like it will have loads of new features.

SC_Trans has always worked fine for me, compared to not having big huge programs such as SAM for Linux and what not, SC_Trans does the trick for basic music rotation. Just looking for some extra for Linux that I know only Nullsoft can do, if they want too. ;)
