I recently acquired a taste for trance but I don't know where to begin looking/listening... currently I'm just browsing around.
Anybody out there like the stuff? Any suggestions?

I got into trance back in 1999 (considered to be its peak by many). However, I think my taste in trance is quite narrow, since a lot of trance compilations just didn't do it for me and I ended up listening to pretty much the same songs over and over. For years. I did have a trance playlist in winamp but alas, before a clean install I forgot to export all my playlists to file and they were lost. Here are a few off the top of my head which you should hear if you haven't already.
Gouryella - Tenshi (my personal favourite)
Gouryella - Gouryella
Gouryella - Walhalla
System F - Out of the Blue
Solar Stone - Seven Cities
Binary Finary - 1998
Rank 1 - Airwave
Thrillseekers - Unity Theme
You've probably heard all of those so sorry if I haven't sent anything new your way. As I said I was into trance around 1999 and it didn't last long.

Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk are big names in trance. I'd even say the Chemical Brothers might fit trance. Most trance lovers have lots of stuff from them.

Another name to remember is George Acosta (http://www.google.com/musica?aid=cxiz3BA7S8H&sa=X&oi=music&ct=result). Awake is a decent one from him.
The Pure Trance (http://www.google.com/musicsearch?q=Pure+Trance&res=album) series is also a good place to look. Vol. 1 is the only one I have so far.
Another one I like is the original mix of Sandstorm by Darude. An edited version is here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSYxT9GM0fQ).
Toca Me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cu-W9if83A) by Fragma is good as well. (Just don't get Toca's Miracle. It has vocals which ruin the music IMO.)

Not to push another forum like a shameless whore.
Oh hell, who am I kidding.
UK Trance Alliance (http://www.uktrancealliance.com/forums/)
These guys know their junk when it comes to trance and they continually rate new music coming out.
They also have a really nice downloads section where you can find mixes from everyone across the board.
please note my affiliation with these forums goes as far as I am member. Nothing more, nothing less. If this post is seen as spamtastic, a mod may remove the link to the forum.

Indeed. Actually, though the official name still stands as UKTA, they have recently spread their wings a little more and the forum encompasses much more than trance. Actually, it expanded to all electronic dance music in general. Though right now, I believe I am just about the only member that openly admits to listening to hard house, hard dance, and hard trance.

That one as well as "Beautiful". Also the Dirty South Mix of Roger Sanchez's "Not Enough" and Tranzident - Feel Alright. There's some others lately I've been getting hooked on as well (though I get think of them right now.) I think my favorite remix that Tiësto did was Moby's "We Are All Made of Stars".
Trance music is good background music when skinning applications.

I find it very hard to avvept that Sander Van Dorn is just now becoming popular.
I was listening to that punk years ago. He has not changed much ....
How many fucking awards did he win this year? Best up and coming DJ being the most prominent. What about five years ago? I would have ranked him that then.
And Alex Kidd???? Trance  UK hard house maybe, not trance. Best DJ for hard style .... Trance? wtf? However, I will agree that the guy is amazing. Nice of him to come back from sabbatical.
Furthermore, and I am going to do against the grain here, how much is Tiesto really spinning anymore? Everyone knows he walks into gigs with a set loaded in Ableton live. Bloody hell, he has his entire collection in Ableton. Is he even doing it anymore, or is it all pre-recodred?

Tiesto is PAINFULLY repetitive. I made the mistake of listening to his discography without putting other artists in between, and because of it, it just disturbs me when I hear his stuff now. It was interesting and entertaining at first, but after maybe only 2-3 hours worth, I was done liking it. But, since I thought I would find something good that I hadn't heard yet, I let the whole discography play before stopping. Bad idea. When you've heard 2 hours of Tiesto, you've really heard it all. Had I stopped there, I might still like his music.
...and I doubt very much that he is actually 'spinning' anymore. It may look like he is, but what happens on his decks is probably just for show - it's all likely pre-recorded.

I could not agree with you more. I also believe that Oakenfold is treading very close to this same path. He still pulls out something new ... but all in all, he's starting to sound the same.
Don't get me wrong, these two DJ's are were great and the scene would not have evolved as it has without them. Both Tiesto and Oakenfold have done wonders ... however, they are also done; their music and style has refused change. These two people are one of the major reasons why I passed techno/trance off and have begun listening to what I now listen to.
IMHO the techno/trance hay day ended in the early 2000's when the scene stopped evolving, due partly to these two.
I would challenge anyone to listen to this (http://download.yousendit.com/1D524C5C644D41D0 --- legal download link given by the artist to facebook users that belong to her group) and try to tell me it is bad (and one must give respect when it is due: the mix is by Anne Savage, one of the true pioneers on this style since the early 90's. Yet she has not been phased out. She learned from Oakenfold and played countless gigs with both Oakenfold and Tiesto. Unlike them, she evolved the style; they just stuck with it).
To come full circle, that music is exactly why Alex Kidd sits where he sits today ...

I've been listening to that quite a bit since you posted it. Great stuff. Much more innovative that the usual fare on Sirius Area 33. The only time they really get some good grooves going is when they have quest DJs present their mixes.

Razz: Glad you like that.
I will admit, I am a little biased here, but everything I have listened to from Anne Savage has been groundbreaking.
And, yes, I do believe that she is quite groundbreaking. Only thing that sounds like her is, well, her.
I also agree with Area 33 on sirius. There is so much more out there than what they play, and the only time it gets worth while is when a guest Dj spins.
