So its set in New York.
Again.

Anybody know any good alternatives?
Cause I'm not interested in going back to NY again thanks Rockstar, like a majority of GTA players I was epecting London.

Bugger'em.

I'd heard rumors it may have been set in Tokyo or Paris, but i'm not too disapointed about it being in New York again.

The trailer looks good. Visually it doesnt appear to be pushing any boundaries, but if that makes it possible for the developers to push out the map size then i'm ok with that. It looks a hell of a lot better than the games built on the old engine anyway. It looks like they're going with a non American character which will be good for a change.

I love Russian accents. Therefore it follows that I will love this game, and play it forever. Also, it's totally cool that the guy is trying to go legit (apparently.)

i heared the graphics should be even better than in the movie! I'm a real GTA fan and for me it doesn't really matter where the city is.

Starting to look really good.

I remember playing and loving the first GTA from the above perspective.

I think one of the main thing that I like about the GTA series is between missions you can explore, and cause as much trouble as you like.

firstly - the map size in san andreas was freaking ginormous, do you really need something bigger than that? i once spent 45 minutes driving one side of the widest piece of land end to end. it wasn't in too bad of a clunker either, i believe it was the cop SUV, or the regular one, not sure.

secondly - i think quite a while ago games that have maps even near that size and not many loading screens, went to the "only keep what's needed currently" in memory scheme, so basically only what you can see is what's in memory, system or GPU.
i could be wrong though.

Damn. I was hoping for London too, it would have followed the trend of reusing the locations from GTA (original). :/

Its no big whoop though, IMO it was pretty brainless to reuse the locations from the original game for the last three anyway... but the games were fun so I can forgive the total lack of effort there, I suspect the same will be true for this one too. :)

Space partitioning (keeping in memory only what you can see) came in quite early, before quake iirc - quake certainly uses it. It used to be absolutely vital to make these optimisations otherwise the game wouldn't even run at 1 fps(!), but today a lazy game developer will skip it on account of the enormous power of today's systems. We have on the order of 100x the amount of memory and on the order of 100 times the CPU power, complete with buses and bridges which have many more times the amount of bandwidth.

GTA IV is fine game but it is not better than the GTA SAN ANDREAS because its too small game lots of people say san andreas is better than GTA IV.
