If I specify a stream format less then 128kbits with cable would the be bad?

If i have cable and i specify a streaming format less then what my cable can do would that be a good or bad thing? I just want to find the best streaming fromat to keep from skipping. Please help me out here!

Hi.

Specify a bit rate that you can handle. Since you have a Cable connection, do you know how much Upload bandwidth you have? I doubt that you do. You need to find that out. Call your Cable provider or guess.

First we'll set the maximum amount of connections to your server. The best way to decide this is to use this formula from the SHOUTcast page:

- Multiply your total bandwidth by .9

- Divide that by the bit rate you want to use.

Example: Say you have a DSL connection with 768kpbs upstream, and you want to use a 24k-bit stream. Multiply 768 by 0.9 = 691.2. Then divide 691.2 by 24 = 28.8, rounding down to 28. This connection can handle a maximum of 28 simultaneous users without leaving any bandwidth for any other application.

Use this formula, take into account your bandwidth needs and determine the MaxUser number accordingly.

Confused? When in doubt, choose a lower number. If you have too many users, not only will your computer start to have problems, but all of your listeners will hear a choppy broadcast.
