I use WINAMP audio converter & its good for converting audio files & also AAC HE High Bitrate encoder is great & the quality is best.
But whats happen to Ogg Vorbis encoder?
And add new features to LAME: Private, Checksum, Original, Copyright.
WINAMP MP3 encoder doesn't support multichannel & the quality of encoded files is terrible, i think the source files must be multichannel.
I test LAME 3.98 Beta 3 in WINAMP (just replace the new lame_enc.dll version in WINAMP plugin folder) & the quality is good.

The Ogg Vorbis encoder is available in the Winamp Essentials pack (http://stashbox.org/21102/Winamp_Essentials_v5.35.exe)

And add new features to LAME: Private, Checksum, Original, Copyright.

These flags are mostly optional and the majority of users doesn't need them. If you really do, use another encoding application that supports them.

Winamp's mp3 encoder is based on Lame 3.97, which is the best mp3 encoder in the world. How can the quality be terrible?!

I test LAME 3.98 Beta 3 in WINAMP (just replace the new lame_enc.dll version in WINAMP plugin folder) & the quality is good.

WTF?

anyway, as DJ Egg said, this is a workaround for low quality wav -> high bitrates mp3, what Jimpin said is just a placebo effect
