Why did WinAmp feel the need to copy iTunes?

I think people liked WinAmp because it's simple and basic- the exact opposite of iTunes.

WinAmp! Don't abandon your strengths as a company!

What other programs are out there that duplicate the functionality of the old Winamp. I have been using this program for a long time and it no longer functions for me. It seems to have gone somewhere else.

There is nothing out there that duplicates the functionality of Winamp, old or new. Winamp is Winamp and that's it.

Also, can you possibly be more vague?

"it no longer functions for me" tells us nothing. In what way? How? What happens/doesn't happen?

"seems to have gone somewhere else" tells us nothing either.

If you have a specific problem then start your own/another thread, titled appropriately (eg: description of the problem), but not here in the Winamp Discussion forum, but instead in the Winamp Tech Support (http://forums.winamp.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=11) forum, and also make sure that you indicate your specs (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161361#specs) and exactly what plugins (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161361#plugins) you have installed.

So, after starting your new thread in the appropriate forum (http://forums.winamp.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=11) and after having clicked on the 2 links above, and after reading what is required of you, and then supplying what is required of you (by posting back with the information required and all relevant logs attached), then one of our Winamp forum resident "gurus" can respond with more help for your specific problem.

At a guess, they're relating to the Bento skin, and probably don't realise that you can just select/switch back to the Winamp Modern or Classic skin, and then Winamp just looks and behaves exactly like it did in any previous version.

Other than that.. lord knows :-/

My other guess would be trolls acting on behalf of some rival player...

Nah, i'm not a troll. I'm just a guy who is computer-challenged :)

Yeah, the problem was that it was set on the Bento skin, which I hate. But I checked into it and set it back into the classic skin, so the issue is all fixed.

Thanks!

I don't think Winamp is trying to be anything like iTunes. The dev team has just provided Winamp with some great features allowing it to rival and improve upon the features most people like about iTunes (album art support being an example). And that's all good news, because the farther away I get from iTunes and crApple the better.:D
