Website Bug: problem uploading plugin

Hello,

I just tried updating one of my plugins and I get this nasty message:

"Damn! Your submission does not exist!"
The URL of the page:

All the file paths are correct and the thumbnail, screenshot & exe file exist. I tried both Firefox & Internet Explorer, this does not seem to be the issue.

I'm not sure if this is the good place to post this message, but none of the other boards didn't seem to be related to website issues.

skin / plug-in updates do not work (and haven't done for years and are doubtful to ever work from how i see it) so you'll need to re-submit the plug-in as a new submission.

it's probably not important enough to be addressed in AOL's view, else they would pay the appropriate $$$ to the Winamp.com webmaster to address and finally fix the issue.

a lot stems from when things got hosed ages back. from my understanding a lot of the system was re-done but it's not been finished off (and the AOL lay-offs a few months back haven't helped with the time available to things).

then again, they push the expandability of the player on the site yet it's a pain to submit anything to the site or do updates of things, is no wonder people don't use it or give up.

i can remember a few people who dropped off due to the site submission problems. i won't touch the site with a barge-pole now (hence why i had the few of my submissions on their pulled since i couldn't update them - not good for buggy 3year old versions). and people wonder why there's sod all going on with winamp plugin development anymore *shrugs*

Yeah Darren. It does suck. And it sucks even more when great devs like you can't control any of it and have to resort to pulling outdated stuff off the site with the inability to update. Matter of fact, as soon as I get a chance I think I'll eliminate the "officially published" link at the Winamp section (http://nunzioweb.com/index.shtml#winamp) of my site where I say this...

Many plugins developed by DrO are now officially published (http://www.winamp.com/plugins/search/?q=DrO) and available directly through Winamp.com.

That "search result" link used to show a plethora of all your published plugins, but of course it doesn't return much of a result today. :blah:

Anyway (in case you hadn't noticed), I've been trying to update the plugins pages at your site (with reviews included), and I'll continue to do so if time permits. ;)

Ahum. But if I do a new submission, what happens with all the reviews and comments other users left on the plugin ? As well as the download count and other data.

Should I put the previous plugin number in the description and Winamp moderators are going to link it to the previous plugin ?

That's ok regarding the removal of the post from the other thread, I know it's not ok to post double but I couldn't figure out which was the right forum.

They get deleted , it's a small price to pay.

Either have new version of plugin for people to use, or have old version + comments + people wondering why the new version isn't availabe

That seems pretty radical, I'm really amazed that the "Edit" function does not function. Everything's cool about Winamp, which makes me even more speechless of how 'uncool' this is. I mean the website is up and running since soon 10 years, how come it has been left so long without fix? Hum.

Well if there's no other solution I'll go for the dirty method, but it's really a pity to loose all the comments people left over the years (since 2002 actually when I first published that plugin) as long as the download count.

The website has undergone many many rebuilds over the last 10 years, the latest of which was last year, the publishing system just hasn't worked right well since then.

It's not a big issue in the grand scale of all things winamp, sadly other things get given more love an attention as they tend to be revenue generating.

It might get fixed on day, it's on the very long list of thing to fix.

Darn, I spend an evening finally tracking down and fixing the config crashing problem with my plug-in and the submission system is still broken (though I guess at least it does work for new submissions now?).

So now the fixed version sits on my PC for nobody to use.

One thing I wonder though is can I publish a new plugin under the same name? I thought the site would complain about that too. Or do I use the delete option first? (I then have a nightmare of new submissions not working either, then even the current version of my plugin would be gone).

Glad I'm not the only person frustrated by this.

Sorta strange that I guess I'll end up having to give up the download count and comments in order to have an updated version... and it's the download count and comments that motivated me to spend an evening tracking down the bug.

I totally understand what you feel. Deleting the plugin and resubmitting gives me the same sentiment, so for the moment I decided to do nothing. I have added new features to three plugins I have on the website, but until Winamp doesn't decide to make the things move forward (how hard it is to allow to edit a plugin??) I'm not going to upload new versions, which would delete all the comments and the download count.

I'm sure I'm not the only one in this position, and I hope somebody in the winamp's website team will hear about this.

to my knowledge it's known that it's broken but there's no one to work on fixing the issues / no resources that i'm aware off.

i won't even go into my views about this situation as i'd have to censor it too much - is the reason why when it was vaguely working i had all of my submissions pulled.

I'm currently having an issue even with *NEW* submisssions. My DSP (AudioProc) keeps getting submitted without its thumbnail, screenshot or download! This leaves no way whatsoever to upload a new version of a plug-in. And now, my original submission with the older version, is gone too.

I suppose all I can do is keep trying, every week or so, hoping someone at least gets new submissions working again!
