View Full Version : The best way to stream WHILE "downloading" from websites???

I run a mp3 website mostly so that no matter where I am, if I have a broadband connection, I have my 700+ CD collection on hand to listen to.

So, here is the problem.

I click on a link that I have created, and I can either open or save as... If I open, I cannot use WinAmp (as far as I know) to listen to the mp3 until after it has put it in a temporary folder (complete download). If I chose, save as... same thing, except that I then must open the file I saved to play it.

With RealAudio, I can "open" the file from current location and it will stream the mp3 for me. But I do not want to use RealAudio to listen to mp3s.

Is there a way to get WinAmp to stream a hyperlink to an mp3 from a browser?

I see this shoutcast thing and content-on-demand, but I don't want to set up a play list for every single track of every single CD to stream them.

Does WinAmp not work like RealAudio?

Anyone know? I am preparing myself for the answer I don't want to hear.

Thanks.

Jeremiah

Me again... continued!!!
To make it very clear what I am wanting... hoping for.

What I am ultimately wanting to do with my site is make the hyperlinks play the mp3s just like MyLocker does.

It sends an m3u file to me, opens it, and streams as they are downloaded. THAT is what I am hoping to do.

I have tried to create m3u files adding URLs and have NEVER got any attempt to be successful.

Please help... thanks

Winamp must be associated with .mp3 extension on the local computer, then within your local browser under preferences you must have Winamp listed as the helper application to open whenever a link with extension .mp3 is clicked. With this setup any url like: http://server.ip.address/path_to_mp3/xxx.mp3 will open winamp and play the mp3.
