View Full Version : New Seasonal/Holiday Genre

It's great to finally have a Seasonal/Holiday genre, however, only stations with the word Seasonal or Holiday in their genre name show up.
Many stations like mine though use the word Christmas (or Xmas, X-mas) in their genre name and not Seasonal or Holiday.
Can this be changed so that stations with the word Christmas (or Xmas, X-mas) in their genre name also show up?
Thanks.
Michael

This has a reason. In some weeks or months you know what I mean and it makes more sense to you. Until that date you should upgrade your genre or just wait until it makes sense ;)

That doesn't make sense? :)

I would update your genre to:
Genre: Seasonal, Holiday, Xmas, Christmas
Probably your best bet, you'll still be seen in the new genre and people who search for Xmas or Christmas will find you as well.

Seasonal, Holiday, Xmas, Christmas
Does not really make sense because there are only 25 characters allowed in the genres field. Also I would drop the ",".

Seasonal, Holiday, Xmas
^ Using that is only 23 characters including the spaces and commas, thats really all he's looking to do.

Don't feel bad. I was in the store today. One aisle had Halloween stuff. The next was Christmas lights and wrapping paper. I was confused however by the lack of Easter baskets and 4th of July banners too.
Geesh.

I would drop "Seasonal" and add Christmas to it, for the next weeks without an update. If you go to http://shoutcast.com/genre/Seasonal/Holiday , the christmas stations will also be listed. And I guess the search volume of Holiday or Christmas is higher than Seasonal. Just a tip ;)

Thanks. The station name is The Cutting Edge of Christmas, so I updated the genre to Alternative Holiday, that way searches with the word Christmas are covered and it will also show up when someone clicks on Seasonal/Holiday.

Fellas, gotta let halloween pass at least!
Also, turkey day in the US is the most bamboozled day ever. Everyone rushes past it anymore to get to x-mas. If I were the pilgrams and indians, I'd be pissed.
Remember when the x-mas crap did not start to appear until after Thanksgiving?

This is worse tortune than being drawn and quartered; tar and feathered; tested to see if you are a witch or not by tying boulders to your feet, throwing you in deep water and seeing if you can swim ... and if you can, then you're a witch; either way your done for!

Now stations with Christmas or Xmas in their genre name show up when you click on Holiday/Seasonal (formerly Seasonal/Holiday).
Also stations with Halloween are mixed in.
Maybe in the future the Christmas and Halloween stations can be broken down into sub-genres.
Jkey
31st October 2008, 14:53
na..
for me holiday and seasonal fit perfect.
If somebody wants an xmas station they just type in the
search box, there is no need for sub genres.

If you were an Indian, you'd have plenty of other reasons to be pissed.
I like the holiday/seasonal genre the way it is. It helped bring more attention to my Halloween broadcast this year, and it allows people doing other seasonal broadcasts to get a highly visible link. If I ever have the time to put it together, I'd love to do a Canada Day broadcast.
I'll leave you all to fight over the Christmas listeners, 'cause it's not really my thing.

I agree and thats why i think sub genres are not needed.
The season/holiday genre covers everything including
Canada Day or any faith based/non faith based events and holidays.
