Pops and Clicks

I am having alot of trouble with winamp ever since i installed Win 2k. I have a diamond MX300 sound card and it worked fine til win2k. now i get pops and clicks totally at random in every song i play. any suggestions?

I just posted exactly the same problem because I didn't perform a search first...
Thusfar, all I have found is that it goes away if you set the quality to half in the mpeg decoder properties. This must be a driver problem, are you using the current Aureal reference drivers?

Yeah, i use the newset drivers. And i still can't find a solution.

I finally got it to go away! But unfortunately for you, I tried about 16 things simultaneously, so I have no idea exactly what was causing it...
A list of things I did:

-Remove the Multifunction Adapter while winamp in playing... this seemed to fix the problem immediately, but when I rebooted and reinstalled drivers it was back

-Install NT 4.0 drivers... this also fixed the problem, but it kept wanting to reinstall the standard win2k drivers, and a3d was horribly hindered. I can give you instructions to install the nt4.0 drivers and have it not nag about win2k drivers if you'd like. I figured this out back before there were aureal 2k drivers...

-Remove (both nt4.0 and win2k) drivers, and delete all the files associated with them in the winnt\system32 dir, along with pretty much everything containing "aureal" in the registry...

-Reinstall the win2k drivers.

Something in that fixed it for me. If you like any more information, feel free to email me at nzoschke@parrett.net. I wish I knew for sure what it was it was. I'd prod around a little more but I'm afraid it'll come back.
