I cannot play any other sounds (games, .wavs, etc.) while I am listening to mp3s with Winamp. This is strange because It used to work fine, and I can listen to mp3s in Media Player (cringe) and still hear other sounds; I can also hear other sounds whlie listening to different types of files in winamp. My brother also has the same problem on a different computer with a different soundcard.
I would be greatful for any help.

it sounds like your soundcard is older and can't handle more than one wave file at a time. change your output plugin to directsound instead of wave output. that should solve your problem.

I can listen to two .wavs at the same time using any program other than winamp. My brother also has a SB Live! sound card, which is fairly high end and ahould easily be able to do that.
When I change the output to direct sound, I can hear two things at once like sould be, except that the mp3s click around like there's no tomorrow, making it very difficult to bear.

I have a feeling this is a non-localized phenomanon. I know at least five people from the same area who are having the same problem: winamp mp3s hog the soundcard somehow. This never used to happen before.
Does anyone have the new versiona and *can* listen to mp3s while playing games/other wav files, etc? I odn't know of any such person...
Also, if one wants to "downgrade" to see if that changes anything, how do you do it?

Strange, playing MP3s and other wave sources works fine with my SB Live. Go into audioHQ in the control panels, then open the device controls box and make sure that the "maximum simultaneous wave playbacks" is set sufficiently high
