i have a sound blaster xfi external sound card attached to my windows vista running laptop...my internal sound card does not have a "what you hear" feature so i had to get the external card to be able to use shoutcast for streaming my internet radio program.
Im experiencing a time lag between when i speak into the mic and when i hear my voice in my headset. this is very distressing.
anyone have ideas on how to elimate the lag?

There's always a delay between what you broadcast and what goes out - it has to go to the server, then stream out - this takes time.
If you have ever listened to an online radio station - particularly one you can get on normal radio - and compare the two, the online version is slighty behind. Even between FM and DAB, there's often a delay - though I think they are working on it to streamline the signals.
Commercial radio stations even timeshift phone-in shows to stop callers swearing - or, at least, to prevent obscenities being broadcast. If you relayed such a stream on Shoutcast, the hourly news will come in at about two minutes past to listeners listening to your station.

This is an x-fi latency issue,
make sure you have tuned off the cmss / eax / chrystaliser and all the other fancy stuff in the software and you can reduce the latency to almost immediate.
google it and you will see your not alone.....
