View Full Version : How to check Total Filesize of Playlist and Copy All Files?

I'm new to WinAmp.

I am having issues searching the plug-ins properly to find what I need.

My issues are twofold:

(1)
I have a large playlist and I would like to find out the total filesize of the playlist. I need this b/c I have a MP3 player with 4GB and a SD card with 8GB and need to spread all the files out.

Also, I am not sure if I have exceeded 12GB (I may have).

(2)
I would like to copy all the files from my playlist to a specific directory, or at least select the right total amount of files from my playlist (say, 4GB worth) and copy it to the MP3 player directory.

Is this even possible? Are there specific trust-worthy plug-ins I need? Do the plug-ins cost anything?

gen_yar will help you with one and two. When you try copying the playlist files with it, it will sum up the sizes and then let you specify a directory to put them in.

Click here (http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?postid=2010541#post2010541) for a link to gen_yar and some other plug-ins of the same idea.

gen_yar was NOT working for me, until I realized that there is only a single VERY SPECIFIC place you can right-click to get the option to copy all playlist files.

That place being NOT directly on your playlist. :/

Also of note, this seems to be a very common request, and I'm surprised that WinAmp has not incorporated a fix directly into the distribution.

Sorry, haven't used Gen_yar in a long time and forgot about where the menu is located. Otherwise I would mentioned that.

For anyone else reading this the option is available main/context/right-click menu.

Although that has been requested a number of different times, it has not been enough to put it on the "priority list" as a default feature.

One of the reasons why Winamp is a modular application (plug-in architecture) is to allow third party developers to answer the call for the number of different feature requests.

BTW, Winamp's media library is capable of supporting/managing (http://media.winamp.com/main/help/50/Portables.htm) various portable media players.
