I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, but just as of this year, SHOUTcast and AOL lauched their own SHOUTcast app to use the YP to play stations on your iPhone and iPod Touch. The application is free and can downloaded through the App Store on your iPhone or iPod Touch (Note: Your firmware must exceed 2.x to download apps)
Anybody used this yet? I've been playing with it alot and I love it, probably the best app for listening to radio that has come to these devices.

Interesting development, but after I downloaded it, not a single preset genre would load any stations. It just sat there with "loading..." on the screen (WiFi connection). App store feedback seems to indicate this is happening to several users. A search by station name worked though.
So I'd say it may not have all the issues worked out yet but when it is working correctly, it will be a nice application.
@JKey - maybe this should be moved to the Widgets/Toolbar forum for further discussion...?

Just got it and have been playing around with it.
I would agree. It is very well put together and is without a doubt the best streaming app I have seen for online radio.

Does it play aac+ stations? Can you enter an URL directly or does it need to be listed in the YP? Sorry, no iPhone for testing or I would have tried and found the answer to these burning questions.
Might want to sticky this in the SC Discussions forum and maybe tech support too.

no, it must be listed in the yp. As far as aac+ goes, it does not list stream format in the app, so I am not too sure. I would search for a aac+ stream for you to see if it works, but I don't have WiFi right now (see below).
This app does have some serious issues. Searches sometimes work, genre loads somtimes work. Anymore, I can't get the app to stream over ATT's 3g network, it will only work on WiFi. That last one renders the app pretty much useless in my opinion. If I have wifi, most of the time I've got a computer near by too.... odd that it worked yesterday over 3g (or at least I thought it did).

Hm, since iTunes does not support AAC+ streams, I dont think that iPhone supports AAC+. But I also dont have an iPhone, so I cant test it ;)

I have confirmed that the app does work on aac+ streams.
The functionality of the app over the 3g network seems hit or miss. I launched it, tried a genre listing and a directory listing and was told I had no internet connection. I then attempted to connect to a station that I had bookmarked yesterday and it worked. After that everything worked again.
There are some apparent bugs that need to be worked out, but I still say it's a great start. Especially with the aac+ support.
Almost makes me want to list in the yp again so I can get access to my streams on the move. Either that or convince the developers to add manual url input to the app. :)

It does play AAC+ streams.
It's hopelessly unreliable on listings though, especially "by genre".
Until that problem is addressed, it's almost useless.
//EDIT - beaten by fc*uk on the AAC+ findings by 60 seconds :)

Heh, I was too curious to know if it worked or not myself :)

AAC+ over the 3G network might be a good thing, but I sure wish it worked for stations that are not listed in the YP. You would be amazed at how many students have the iphone 2, yet will still complain about buying $75 worth of video tape.

Since the yp and its ad revenue is what drives shoutcast now and more so in the near future i understand why manual input of urls is left out of the new crop of shoutcast apps gadgets and othe Nick NaKs.
