View Full Version : Help Needed with the McTOSD 1.1

Kindest regards to all of you who might stumble across this thread and post a useful reply to my question.

So, let's get straight to the point.

The notification plug-in which goes by the name of McTOSD 1.1 is almost perfect for my use. The only thing I'm curious about is, whether it is possible to add few extra features to it - and that is at least the Album name of the playing song (and of course if this is possible, I guess one could also add the genre, year and comment of the track?). Basically what I'm asking here is, if it is possible to add additional ID3 info to the McTOSD's only "artist-title" display scheme and how to do it, so it would look something like this:

Artist - Title
Album - Year
Genre - Comment

(If you're asking yourself why would anyone like to have the comment displayed - it's because I use it to show the country that the artist is from).

On the other hand, I am perfectly aware that "Toaster" offers just the above-mentioned thing through its setting window (I've managed to get just the perfect thing on my former WinXP running system) but unfortunately it doesn't work properly with Vista (the green square issue). Also the already built-in winamp notifier does the trick, but somehow it's completely non customizable, so genre and comment are not addable and also the "plate" or background of the text is unchangeable.

So, if anyone knows the answer to my question I would be very very thankful to any info I can get.

all of those tags are able to be queried from winamp but that would need to be done directly via the plugin (which is not possible to do from the look i just had off it).

now from trying it out, it takes the title from the playlist title from what i can tell, so you'd need to go to prefs -> titles and change the atf formatting field to include the extra fields needed.

that will then require your playlist to be refreshed to have the new title shown. only downside to that is if you don't want the playlist to show the additional info (a compromise as you're not able to have the plugin modified - unless the author has released a new version...)

Hey, thanks for the advice.

Reformatting the atf string actually did the trick, and was in one way pretty handy too (I was finally able to see which track is a part of which album even in the playlist editor), however, all the other info in it made the PE look not-so-nice as it was before. The other thing that was not cool either is that the McTOSD showed the whole info in one single row, which made it long and thus somehow annoying. :)
Maybe I could solve that problem by enabling margins in the plug-in's Preferences window, but on the other think I guess it wouldn't work for all of the tracks.

So I switched back to the original atf format and am now waiting for the new Toaster beta (hopefully compatible with Vista).

But still, thanks for the info, DrO.

i thought most people had given up on a toaster update happening to fix the issue unless as it's been so long since anything has been heard unless you know otherwise to that, heh

I think it was in a thread I was reading - something about ActiveWinamp - where Shaneh said that he is currently working on a new Toaster beta, But I can't remember whether was it a freshly dated thread or an old one. I surely hope it was a younger one :D

Well, as it seems I have not remembered that correctly. I went to look at the aforementioned thread once again and I couldn't find the post where he said that particular Toaster-related info. I guess I must have mixed two different threads. Too bad.

Now how about making the Winamp Modern Skin's notifier a bit more customizable? :)

with a last post in the early part of 2007 i'd have thought that toaster post would have been from around that time as well (matches with the vista release time as well) but unless it's been posted/linked somewhere else, i don't believe anything has ever appeared to resolve the issue.

for the modern skin notifier, i can't remember if the most current version of the .m files have been released for it, but with that you could adjust the information shown i believe (is vaguely what i did when i made the winamp modern notifier like the bento notifier). but really that sort of thing is more suited to the wishlist or the modern skin development forum.

Got it. :)
Will post it there.
