Sorry if this seems all wrong. I'm an uber noob at skinning. This is my very first attempt at skinning anything, not just Winamp.

I'm working on this skin to try to mimic the default UI in FFXI. I saw so many other skins for other Final Fantasy games in the winamp.com skins database but none for my current favorite flavor, so I decided to try making one myself. So far it's been a struggle to transform the images in the dats to get things to fit and make sense. My biggest problem at the moment are the ridiculously gigantic EQ slider buttons. They don't really fit the attempt. I'm trying to use the Regions.txt file to make the buttons go away but something tells me it's not going to work at all. I tried making the image for the buttons smaller but the bitmap surrounding the smaller button images I tried was not melding with the background at all and it looked even worse! I guess this is mostly my artistic/creative ineptitude at play. :( What I guess I'm asking is if it looks "ok" the way it is now.

I'm also having a problem finding a template image for skinning the AVS window. I can't tell where the images are supposed to be or how they're supposed to be laid out/melded by just reading the Beginner's Atlas thread (I think that's what it was called.) If I understand correctly I think the AVS window has been dropped in newer versions of Winamp but I still really really really really really want to skin that window for backward compatibility. All the example skins I found did not have an AVS.bmp in them. Can somebody point me to one?

Hello? Anybody?

You can learn about skinning the old old old avs window here...
http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=134725#avs

the skinners atlas skin itself should have a copy of the old window in it...
http://www.winamp.com/skins/details.php?id=126738

if not I'll see what I can dig up.

Try this, blimey, took some finding, seriously, if you left it out I doubt anyone would notice?

(Thank You!) (Thank You!) (Thank You!)

(/bow)
(/kneel)

Yeah, I realized that maybe probably nobody would miss it... ...except me! In my sick, twisted, and grossly perverted little brain would be this gnawing feeling of incompleteness. :blah: I do appreciate you taking the time to find it, I do.

(/emote) flails his hands up into the air wildly while running around like a chicken with it's head cut off screaming, "THANK YOU!"

What do you think of the skin so far?

No idea, looks like a little red x in a box to me :D (Imageshack is blocked on my work network, so can't see your image ;) )

It looks like you have hit every detail there is, well done. It also looks a bit inspired by the Winamp classic skin.

Though the blue is really intense, it is also kind of boring. But at least you are trying. Your first attempt is way better then mine!

Keep it up we need more classic skinners... Wait is this a Final Fantasy skin! My bad, haha it looks great.

At least you aren't galloping along with another automated skin. Though, personally I prefer much more customization in skins. I think for a first entry this has some interesting ideas. Again though, more customization. :)

The intent of this skin is not necessarily originality. I am trying to mimic the user interface (UI, menus/buttons/sliders/scrollbars,mouse pointers (more soon hopefully)) of Final Fantasy XI without, of course, stripping away the functionality and usability of Winamp (my primary concern.)

I think I see the intensity of the blue but I'm not entirely sure I can pinpoint it since I am looking at it from a kind of biased point of view. Since I'm trying to render UI controls based on an amalgamation of what I think it would look like if it really was FFXI and the Winamp UI (with, I'm hoping, less emphasis on the classic Winamp UI as I can unartistically muster) I have to make stuff up. There's no [Play], [Stop], [F.Fword], or [R.Wind] buttons in FFXI. lol I am worried that if I do tone-down some of the blue aspects that action would decrease legibility. Most of the color scheme I am using is basically fades of various highlighted and shadowed areas of FFXI UI controls, mostly the slider tops (it made the most sense to me at the time.)

Oh and in-case anyone is wondering the fade, transparency, and (un)artwork work is done in Paint Shop Pro 7 while formatting work is mostly done with MS Paint(lawlz.)

Is there anyway I can get rid of the buttons for the equalizer window without loosing the sliders and the eq graphic? I tried to exclude the button graphics with the Regions.txt file but it doesn't seem to be working.

Two days ago I noticed that I accidentally regioned out 1px of the right-most side of the equalizer window so I'm attaching a fixed version.

I am very open to suggestions and pointers.
