hey guys,
so i have a new win7 install. installed winamp 5.572. used the backup app to restore settings from my vista install, and all seemed to go well.
however, in win7, when i right click a folder, i can not "add to ML." is this a known win7 issue/limitation, or is this just something with me?
i checked the prefs, and i should be able to do it. i even unhighlighted and rehighlighted it.
not sure what the story is here, or if restoring a backup (beta8) is somehow involved. but i thought i'd bring it to your attention, get your feedback on it.
thx.
if it's the option from the shell options prefs page then it's the known issue that the jtfe plug-in still needs to be updated to support elevation requests (started on recently but localisation updates have taken up most of the time i've had to work on the plug-in) for registry access... unless i'm missing something else...?

ah ok, so its a known issue with win7, and not vista (b/c it worked on vista).
is there a workaround, or a newer ver to make it work? or is it just a case where it will not work on win7 until you get time to update it?
at one point, win7 prompted me that winamp was trying to make changes or something, and i granted it, but still no love.
i thought maybe by restoring a backup i hadn't triggered the right thing in win7, to allow it to work.

For now, the workaround is to open Winamp by right-clicking the Winamp desktop/programs icon and selecting "Run as administrator".
Then go to: Prefs -> File Types -> Shell Options
Set it up to taste (ie. highlight 'Add to Winamp's Media Library' in the File & Folder Context Menu lists).
When done, switch to a different Prefs page.
Close Winamp.
Reopen Winamp normally (ie. not as admin)
Do not go back to the Shell Options prefs page
(or chances are you'll need to repeat the above again).
i'd like to think i'll have the internal build of the plug-in converted over to being compatible by the start of next week (have already fixed the file types icon page override mode & directory context menu handling) though due to how things are, it's only ever going to be 5.58+ supported feature due to how/what has to be done with the elevator.exe/interface.

well it's taken most of today day to go through all of the relevant code (including refactoring and size reductions - tricky when things were already lean) but there is now an internal version which will elevate as required as long as there is a supporting Winamp client i.e. 5.58+ so as not to have to start as an admin first. (just minor bug reports to deal with no *joy* )

DrO,
as always i am impressed with your skills, but can you clarify one thing for me? when you say 5.58+ does that INCLUDE 5.58 or does it mean only versions HIGHER than 5.58?
i am very much looking forward to 5.58, as i think it'll have the ratings in tags feature i so desperately want, and this will be a nice bonus.
ps. thx egg for the workaround!
it includes 5.58, would be a bit silly to fix it and hold it back for a later release ;)

so, all fixed then?

this issue isn't fixed... (5.581)
when i try it, it will open winamp if none is open, or it will open a second instance of winamp if one is already open, even if "allow multiple instances of winamp" is unchecked.
and winamp doesn't add anything, and the ML will be on "bookmarks" and won't show audio categories/views when clicked on.
