If i have an album say 100% Christmas with 2 dozen different artists in it winamp on the PC handles it find, but on the droid it displays 2 dozen albums all with 1 song... why is that?

I have the same problem.

Its useless like this. It plays every sound file on my memory card.

There should be an option for playing music in certain folders. Not just music arranged by id3 tags, as usually if you dont have proper id3 tagged music, which 90% of people dont- it just creates a mess when I try to play something.

I have the same and it's very annoying, I have a Lounge music double cd that contains 25 different artists and there's no way on my phone to see it as one album.

I am having the same issue. Is this a bug or is it a feature? :)

Whoops. I posted about the same issue just a second ago.

Any kind of compilation CD shows up in Albums as a separate album for every track on the album because the Artist on every track is different.

I think Winamp for Android is just not using/reading or ignoring the Album Artist tag.

I set the Album Artist tag on all my compilation and DJ mix albums to "Various Artists" and it works perfectly in Winamp 5.6 and (when I tried it out) on iTunes too.

When (if?!) the Library module in Winamp for Android supports this, I will be a happy chappy!

This has got to be a bug, right?

Apparently the behavior for albums with a unique album artist and different artists depends on how the files got copied to the phone:

1) If I copy the compilation folder to the SD card manually (i.e. via Explorer) Winamp for Android shows one album for the compilation (desired outcome)
2) If I use Winamp Sync to copy the compilation the album artist info seems to get lost. Each Song gets copied into a different folder on the SD card (i.e. song artist name). In this case Winamp for Android shows one Album for each song.

Is any developer reading this and can confirm this?

I'm not a developer, but I can confirm that I get this exact same behaviour with my setup, which is:

Samsung Galaxy S phone (Android)
Winamp 5.623

If there is a workaround to this ANNOYING feature/bug could someone post the instructions to this thread? I looked at the other threads that are referred to here, but couldn't find help.

Clear instructions on how to get Winamp transfers to Android phones working so that the Album Artist ID3 tag works as it shoud with 'Various Artists' value would be SOOO much appreciated. Please post the instructions to this thread. Thanks :)

read the link in the post prior to this one.

winamp inexplicably behaves differently depending on if the sync is done via wifi or usb. using wifi i think it works properly, if using usb, u need to make changes in the settings.

these issues are especially annoying to me. winamp really needs to get this ironed out.

Thanks MrSinatra!

After reading that mess of a thread you referred to I got my system working. Hooray! Here is what I did:

I still connect with USB
I changed my phone from Kies mode to USB mass memory mode. (Phone settings -> Wireless Settings -> USB-settings)
After connecting to Winamp I changed the USB-Drive preferences under the Advanced tab. For File Name Format I'm using this string: I:\music\<AlbumArtist>\<Album>\## - <Title>

Now I have proper behaviour on my Android phone with albums having various artists

Once you know what to do it's not especially hard - but before that... Oh man what a drag ;)
