|Songs stop after about 2 seconds... wtf?

I don't know what happened. One day after I started my computer I went to listen to some mp3s but they would cut out after 2 seconds. I tryed reinstalling 2.62 twice and I installed 2.5e after I uninstalled 2.62 and it STILL doesnt work! Next I tryed leaving only the nessesary mps plugins in the plugin folder but the same problem occurs.
My sys stats:
AMD K6-2 500
pioneer 32x cd
rockwell modem/soundcard
other crap i dont remember

is the problem winamp specific or does it happen if you try to play mp3s in other programs as well? (try windows media player)

it works fine in windows media player... but it sounds like crap.

Sounds like a problem with your sound card drivers. Remove them and re-install them. If you don't know how to do this, set winamp to play through directsound (Options -> Preferences -> Plugins -> Output, highlight directsound plugin). You'll still have problems elsewhere though unless you sort your drivers out

My winamp won't play. i just downloaded it a few days ago . the play bar only blinks on for a second when i push play and then it disapears. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/confused.gif
