Following the security breach and loss of my data to a hacker, I was emailed to be advised to update my password.

I've only posted a couple of times so I apparently can't update my password. Not until I've made 20 posts. So sorry, but I'm going to have to spam the forum to get myself up to 20 posts. Silly really

This is pointless - I have to wait a minute between posts too?

Thanks for fucking up, winamp

Huh? I changed my password without having 20 posts... It's in the "Edit email and password" menu item in control panel.

Do we have any ways to delete our forum account?

Read the Security Breach FAQ sticky, it's there:
5) How can I delete my account?

We understand how important trust is on the web, and some of you may wish to delete your Winamp Forums account. To delete your account make sure that you are logged into the Winamp Forums and follow these simple instructions:

Scroll down to the bottom of the forum home page and click on View Forum Leaders. Scroll down to the Root section to see the list of Administrators. Send your deletion request to DJ Egg or DrO using the contact link to the right of the administrator's name. The Administrator will delete your account upon receiving the private request message and send you a confirmation email once the account is deleted.

Read the Stickied "Winamp Forums Security Breach FAQ", idiot. Its there.

As for the breach... I guess I'm rather disappointed. I don't go here often, but at least I know where all the spams been coming from. Guess its not Winamp's fault though... Time to make a new password for lots of websites I guess...

Ha. I didn't even remember HAVING an account here.

So... I can't say I'm all that concerned, but I changed it anyway.

Edit:

And quite obviously, you can change it with less than 20 posts. Go post #1!

1) What data was exposed in this breach?

We have confirmed that your email address was exposed as a result of this attack. As a security precaution, we recommend that you change your password on the Winamp Forum.
So its just our email addresses and nothing else?
Or its only email address confirmed and other data unconfirmed?

Hope the security team really overhaul the security of the forums and not just change parts of the existing code.

The security breach is actually the reason I came back. :D I got the email this morning, so I decided to drop in to GD after changing my password. Not worried about any flood of spam, though. Gmail has a most excellent spam filter. (I'd imagine most email providers do nowadays).

Well that's interesting, my notification came in the junk folder.

Is there a difference between "junk" and "spam"?

There'd have to be... I like all sorts of junk, but none of it qualifies as spam. :p
