OK. I searched the sticky thread and this wishlist forum and don't think anyone's yet asked for this.

Often when I plugin a usb portable winamp does not detect it and does not present the 'Is this a device you want to manage w/ Winamp?' dialog. Not a huge problem, but sometimes if I click 'discover' it seems like nothing happens. Then, sometimes I'll go to the USB Device Support Configuration (under Preferences/Plug-ins/Portables), choose the drive letter and click connect. Again, seems like nothing is happening.

After trying all that, sometimes I'll forget about it, go back to WinAmp later (having left it running) and find that the device is finally displaying in the media library. My guess is that the device connection involves a scan of all the media, and if there's a lot of files it might take a long time. I have two devices I use most often, one is 16G and another 500G, the response time is hardly adequate when the 16G is full. I'm not sure I've seen it work with the 500 yet.

The fact is: if device discovery is working as it should, it's not providing any info to that effect. I'd think some kind of progress bar would be more than useful to not only communicate that the connection is established, but also to show that media lookup is progressing. I've seen portables freeze, and it would be nice to be able to see that progress has halted without having to check the device.

Worst-case scenario, some kind of display that simply shows an increasing count of detected media files would suffice.

Thanks!

So my 500g loaded. Took about an hour?

Would really like to be able to see the file path of items on my portable in the media library.
