hi out there...
i have noticed that if you activate the shuffle command in winamp with a wide playlist (above 200 songs), some of the songs play really often while others dont... i think this is due to a most important problem, coming from the unability of a computer to give a really random number, but i dont know more about that. so if someone could help...

what version of winamp are you using? I read in other posts that the problem has been fixed in 2.62 and onward. The shuffle function now works as in real cd players: it won't repeat any selection until all has been played (if you have the repeat selected). As to the "randomness", it is probably pseudo-random as you supect.

I've got 2.64, and this problem doesn't seem 'fixed' to me. Obviouslyy, true randomness can't happen, but this pseudo-shuffle is pretty annoying.

i have 1450 songs in my playlist, but i think shuffle works. maybe it is only because i have so many songs, so the probability one will repeat is not so high even with pseudorandom. if you want real shuffle, you could use misc->sort list->randomize list.

Randomize list still suffers the same problems. I have >100 songs (not as much, I know), but If I randomize the list, songs still cluster around the original order. If you try randomizing several times, reverse order, and randomize several times, you can notice a pattern arising. You'd expect that reversing order would change the pattern, but alas, it doesn't http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif

I also have 2.64 and the shuffle doesn't work right at all. At present I've got 175 in the one directory and I hear 30 over and over again while maybe 4-5 are new each time around. I experimented with mixing up the order and then the shuffle but no difference. Do these forums ever get read by the actual developers? I can't see how it would be that hard to set it to only play those that haven't been played yet until they have all been played.
