Ive written a tool to extract the Mp3 Tag from Mp3 files, but i had a problem with the genre field. Does anyone now how the genre field is written to the Mp3 field? Best regards.

I'm currently working on something similar to your tag extractor. I have access to some automated CD-R equipment and an mp3 collection of around 1000+ songs. If you put those things together you might see what my current project is. Oh, that automated CD-R equipment works over the network and prints.
Anyway, you may be interested in this website: http://www.egr.uri.edu/~kovacsp/mp3/ID3-Tag.html
That's where I got my info on the TAG format.
Just to let you know, the genre field is a 1 byte field. You will have to do a lookup of some sort to get the actual human-readable genre.

-BASIC ID3 tag-
3 bytes - "TAG"
30 bytes - Title
30 bytes - Artist
30 bytes - Album
4 bytes - Year
30 bytes - Mp3 Comment
1 byte - GENRE!

The genere is just one byte, right? That gives us a MAX of 128 different genres. Thanks to the WinAmp and the ID3 krews, these are standardized. Goto http://www.id3.org/id3v2.3.0.txt and you will find a list of the current standards!

Good lucks man.

I've checked that site, but it only shows 125 genre titles. Winamp has at least 20 more. There are numerous postings in the forum looking for the assigned numbers and titles of these other categories, but no good replies yet. I use a prog called
"Stomp"[http://saturn.spaceports.com/~montigo] that sorts MP3's by genre and creates playlists, but you have to modify the DAT file to add these extra genre listings. And they have to list out in numerical order or you just get "other" as a genre.
Any help out there?
