View Full Version : Lets bitch about the Olympics...

Yeah I hate them. It's devolved into
a giant competition not for medals, but
between cruddy cities that need the world
spotlight for tourism dollars. I mean if
you look at the last couple places ... they
arnt the most EXCITING places in the world
(Sydney could be an exception) I mean
salt lake city... ooh thats where the action
is... The governing body is rife with so much bribery and corruption that it's just like a REAL government. And to make it all
worse the only event I like they dont even air on TV - Fencing. Bah its just like all
proffessional sports... a profit machine.
And to top it alll off they don't release
new movies during the olympics.... the studio
people think that they will get all the
viewers. I won't be one of them... thats for sure.

The olympics bite. Just another media outlet to grap our eyes by the balls and stuff non-stop ads filled with life-threatening topics such as which fabric cleaner removes semen stains the best, or which yeast infection treatment is color coordinated with your socks. Bah Humbug! http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Huh? Olympics? Whazzat? Here in chile I haven't see one single commercial for the olympic games. I never watched 'em, anyway. What they need to do for me to watch the olympics is to appeal to my carnal interests, for instance:
1. Playboy playmates in bikinis announcing the events
2. Interesting events such as "kill the politicians" in which the contestants run after presidential candidates w/ chainsaws in an effort to mow them over. The politician winners get to hold office.
3. More babes in bikinis
4. An actual decent theme song that you can dance to.
5. More contact-events such as playmate mud-wrestling and contact-golf (padding optional)

Sorry for all the references to playmates, i'm feeling exceptionally horny today.

How about the fact that countries are now buying their olympic athletes? That seems a little weak to me. A country that is weak in one area of the games can go somewhere and make a deal with another country to "rush" the process of citizenship so that they might get a couple more medals. Example..
Qatar paid Bulgaria (I think it was them) 1 million dollars for some weightlifters and extremely shortened the three year process of becoming a citizen. All for a chance in gaining a couple of medals.
And what the hell is this with the new sports they are adding to the Olympics? Trampoline?!?! COME ON!
Although there will be women on trampolines....hmmmmm women on trampolines. uhhh
I'll be back in a minute.

I don't mind the actual olympics as much as the treatment the participants get. In many countries there is so little input from the government that they have to work 7 days just to earn the money to train at whatever time of night they can still remain awake, whilst in over countries it's money money money and they never have to work at anything else other than training.

This is so unfair that it makes a mockery out of the whole thing. Not to mention the sponserhip differences in the various disciplines. What is it that makes someone want to compete, the bribary, corruption, scandal, the bias, the daily injustices, the time and effort that goes into giving your all to your sport only to have it all rubbed in your face, the commercialism that obscures and belittles your acheivments, the soul destoying reality that it is all just one big crock of sh*t...

Mule.

that's not a sport... that's a lifestyle...
and I don't mind watching the olymipcs, the athletes are still the same, it's just the awards and posturing that are annoying. it's possible to get by them though...

Being an avid footbagger(hacky sack enthusiast), I'm sad to say I didn't make the 2000 team.
Wait, they don't have that event yet, DAMN THEE!
2004, I'll be there kickin away!

Well I've got to put up with Olypmic everything, I'm just glad I came to Melbourne and not Sydney (which is apparently on the other side of the universe). The station thats broadcasting them, Channel 7, has got nothing on but olympics, olympic updates, news and their shit current affairs program. No cartoons in the morning, no mind numbing sitcoms and no normal sport.(fyi if you are the host nation, you cant have any other major sporting events on at the same time. The AFL + NRL grand finals were on early because of this leaving an intolerable gap between football and cricket seasons)

THe worst of all is when NBC who is brodcasting it here REMOVES conan o brien in place of a midnight olympic commentary....
THAT is very screwed.

Chev, I'm sure you can hacky sack away at
2004 if you just give the Olympic Commitee
a little "Gift". And besides, they did add
the trampoline and snowboarding... too other
dubious sports. I'd like to see some
olympic bowling now... how about olympic
shuffleboard? Croquet?

And dammit they never air olympic Fencing! :mad"

I've never had the manual dexterity to play hacky sack. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif But, if that was put in the Olympics, I might just watch it.

Now a hacky-sack competition... THAT would be interesting. I'd actually watch that. Of course I doubt they'd ever make it a sport in the olympics.

TRAMPOLINING? WHAT THE FUCK IS INVOLVED IN THAT? (Besides the obvious jumping up & down)

At least everyone here has more than one channel to chose from. Where I am I have ONE station (that I understand), and I have no control over what is played unfortunately. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif

What, you mean broken links? yeah, that's the adds page all right - at least for me.

The only part of the olympics I really watch is the lighting of that one burning torch thing. Whoever shootes THAT has my respect.

Homestead is performing a system upgrade. So, my site is temporarily off-line. The link will be fixed soon, though. Sorry.
