i was just at best buy with my stepdad looking at home theater equipment. those salesmen are stupid assholes. sales people in general are stupid. i've talked with people selling computers for over an hour (each) to realize they know shit about computers besides what is printed on the card up front.

i just passed 1400 posts. near 1600 total. goal: 2001 by jan 1, 2001.

I deliberately ask them REALLY taxing things like "What chipset is on that Motherboard?" Now this is kind of an important one...especially on an Athlon system...did anyone in the ENTIRE shop know??? Nope... my reply : "Er... you had better phone the distributer..." Hmmmm.. so like why don't you phone.. "Er... I am not authorised to do that sir..." Okay, well give me the number then... "Er... I can't actually give out that information sir..." --sigh- oh well you really think you are selling me this computer then? I thinketh not.

Second case. I want a simple tape recorder with a line in socket.

"Do you have any tape recorders with a Line in socket?"
"er..what's that?"
"A line in socket. like a mic socket"
"er..well thay all have mic sockets"
"No, I want one with a LINE IN socket"
"er.. why don't you try the digital imaging section"
"excuse me?"
"They might be able to help you."
-I humour him-
"So, do you have any tape recorders with a line in socket?"
"A what?"
"A line in socket."
"er.. no this is cameras, try audio"
"I've just been there, they sent me here."
"er.. well I can't help you.."

...you get the picture... -sheeesh- I go to RadioShack..a minute later I walk out with exactly what I wanted for $20. There you go.

I think they have a policy of just not training anyone in anything. It is not their fault that they have not been given any information on the products they are trying to sell..oh well I just won't go there again...

I'm used to the Barras and little Asian hardware stores where you can buy everything OEM over the counter.. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif Funnily enough they don't have them in Portland...oh well.

I have a friend who capitalized on that-
he knew what the guy didn't know what
he was taking about, and steered the guy
into saying that the computer was something
that it wasn't. He bought it and then
returned it on the grounds that it wasn't
what the salesman said it was. THe manager
gave him 300$ off any computer in the store
and fired the salesman!

I don't remember exactly what it was about
the computer- something about ports or something.
