What would you do if you didn't go to school? Goof around, watch tv? Play some vid games? How long before you actually went out and did something interesting? Ahhh, but you're proberly one of these naturally gifted youngsters who knows everything and can just walk into a well paying job anytime they want...unlike the majority of the populace that is.
Just wait until you are out of it and been through a few years of work. You'll be wishing that maybe you should have tried learning some stuff after all.
I know that some teachers can make this a goddamn struggle and a half with their lameness but you got to go with the flow and work with what you've got. Would you like to be a teacher one day? Proberly not.
Mule.

Yes but wouldn't it be more useful if you'd learn some stuff that you could actually use during the rest of your life, a BROAD education instead of all that specific maths/fysics/chemistry...etc SHIT. Sure an education is very usefull but why do they have to teach you all the crappy-nonsense-details about triangles, logarithmic functions etc.

Oh I agree totally. Yes some life teaching would be useful. As an example when I was in school we did not get any sex education becuase it was "evil" (small Scottish Islands here remember). We were also forced to learn RE (religious education) which by the way wasn't religious education in the slightest but rather Wee Free or else you burn in hell type stuff... nice http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif Then of course there was such delights as forced catechism recitals (always on a Monday morning...sheesh was that always a bad day!)
But yeah the problem schools have is that they have to educate a rather large number of people, all of which are proberly going to end up in different fields of work. It is impossible to teach each individual only the most useful and nessesary components for their particular chosen path and ability. Thus is is nessesary to teach a global lesson that will help the majority of students for the most popular jobs. This also has to be balanced against what jobs are required in the place of education and what the Goverment deems important areas also.
So the final result is a lesson plan that can be very vague and seem to include certain subjects/lessons that are of no use whatsoever. Of course what you must realise is that someone has decided that the coutry needs more Engineering folk or more programmers whatever and as such the lessons are geared around providing this data. You might happen to be an artist in which case tough there is not a lot you can do about it other than changing schools.
I think that at the end of the day schools do not have nearly enough hours in the day to cram in all the stuff they need too and then to provide the life skills as well. When you are on a ratings league and your whole existance depends on the results you show then what else can you do? Wish for a deep pocketed sponser?
Education in general is never going to suit everyone. Needs must be filled and there must be people there to do the work that needs to be done. There are other school systems like Montessori and Steinburg where they focus on completely different aspects of learning and provide a totally different environment. If you have the money then why not try these?

Can anyone think of a place where the Customers wear uniform, but the staff don't?
I can only think of one: School

Actually I admit I use some of the proportional relationship, angle functions, and circle properties that I learned in high school geometry in my art career. Sorry to poke a hole in the argument. Most of Algebra is useless for everyone so there http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif
S1138, are there any home school programs
in your area? Many programs let you tailor
your High school education to fit your needs
and your future. A lot of requirements for
a HS diploma can be met doing open ended
activities and RELEVANT community college courses.

Speaking of school; I was wondering if anyone could help me with an uh.. science project. How do you make a harmless* explosive with normal, around-the-house items?
*hehehe

I'm sure any explosive of that nature would involve thai food ;-)
