I even remember the days b4 that guy said "Let there be light" http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif
What I'm doing living in Leeds - UK is a total mystery.
Seriously tho' folks, I've a sneaky feeling that I'm one of the "oldest" dudes here !
All these people talkin' about school 'n being a teenager brings back lots of distant fond memories.
Aah, nostalgic reminiscence of a former life.
As a clue, when I was at school [ha, worra larrf] CECIL was all the rage.
I think BASIC & COBOL appeared just after I got expelled for being a subversive element.
BTW, I did get 10 O-levels though !
Oh well, back to work.
Maybe I should start a "I hate newbies" thread ? http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Bloody heck Winsane, I'm not that old.
The 3 ancient programming languages I referred to were kind of a red herring.
Yeah, now what did CECIL stand for again ?
It was totally shite that's for sure.
If x=5 goto y then blah blah blah bollox
Yeah, BASIC & COBOL were around, but Windows certainly wasn't !
Re - the subversive element bit, if it helps, I was one of the first punk rockers in the UK in 1976/77 and used to goto school dressed in mental ripped shirts held together by safety pins, skintight black drainpipes, winklepickers, etc . . . and I had dyed jet black spikey hair.
Aah, the shame of it ! http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif
Hey, I saw the Sex Pistols, the Damned, Siouxsie, the Lurkers, the Vibrators, Buzzcocks, the Snivelling Shits and 100's of other punk bands b4 most people even knew they existed [& some probably still don't].
Yup, I was one mighty social outcast & rebel. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/cool.gif
Very anti establishment, always going on protest marches, plotting to bring the government down etc [ho ho ho].
I then discovered d***s & mysticism & turned into a long haired freaked out d.g.a.f. hippy. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/eek.gif
This also played a major part in my discovery of proper hefty music, but that's another story [fart - yawn - bore].
It was somewhere in this phase where I got expelled, but I've gotta admit it's all a bit hazy !
Well, it was almost 20 yrs ago !
I must've been in about 10 or more different bands [bass gtr/vox/percussion/kybds] b4 finally giving it all up for DJ-ing in the late 80's+ 'n still going strong !
Well, there's a very brief & shallow summary of the life story of the Egg.
I shall spare you any more details & not bother you nice people anymore. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/wink.gif
Oh yeah, and an O-Level in the UK was kinda the same as what a GCSE is now.
They used to be called 11+ [Eleven plus], though ya had to stay on into the 6th form or goto college to get A-Levels.
I got expelled in the 2nd month of the upper 6th.
This is probably all gobbledygook to anyone outside of the UK.
I don't know too much about other countrys' education systems as far as equivalent certificates are concerned . . .
What a carry on, eh !?!?

Yeah, you're right about the UK. The stiff upper lipped bureaucratic authoritarian brain washing propagandist system side of it all totally sucks, for sure.
But, the real true people, the underground culture & our inherent spirit will thrive forever, no matter how much "they" try & sweep us under the carpet.
Though, as for the weather, sheesh !
btw, Guns 'n Roses & Bon Jovi REALLY do suck !
Too right . . . UGGHHH !
Sorry if I've offended any fans, but it's true.
About 95% of today's commercial "music" totally sucks.
Like I say, it's all gone well underground !
Hey, go for it with the DJ'ing !
All the best my friend !
The most important part of it is the actual music ya play.
The mixing side of it is all an extra added bonus !
When I started out it was just with 2 or 3 record decks and a mixer.
Then came the tape decks, the CD players, the DAT machines, and finally MP3.
[btw, no mikes when live, only on the radio]
It all gets a bit hectic when I play a set these days.
Ya should've seen this guy's face last night when I started to plug everything in to his console. He just stood there all night in awe without saying a word !
Well, actually, he spent most of the time watching the Psychedelic Screen Saver Winamp plug-in on my monitor . . . I think ?!?!

Sorry for the second post but I just remember a project I worked on when I was a kid.
I wrote a really funky little sound to light program in Assembler that showed pretty pictures (of my own made in Artist II! well shucks!) and flashed the screen various colours (PAPER) behind the picture and added some random strobes here and there... (I kind of stole some Paralax stars from someone else though..oops) It even came with an editor! It allowed you to set predefined colour patterns and bursts for a frequency range (ie. 0 to 255). Heh my one and only attempt at writing a VIS!!!
I had my crap tape deck plugged into the back of the speccy, and then from there in to my Bass amp... Mono....but LOUD mono!!!! With all the lights turned off and the television brightness turned way up, you got some pretty funky light shows... (errrm...did I mention that there was not a lot to do in my village? http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif )

Ask me 5 yrs ago, and I could've solved your problem, Ice, but unfortunately, my BASIC knowledge has become, well, basic.
It's really simple, about 4-7 lines of code. You'd need a rnd statement to select color, one particular function which evades me at the moment to change screen color, thana goto to make it loop.
rm'
25th September 2000, 07:53
It'd look like this:
10 CC = INT(1 + RND * 16)
20 [color statement goes here] = CC
30 FOR TIMER1 = 1 TO 500
35 NEXT TIMER1
40 GOTO 10
CC is the variable for color (the function defaults to 1 = red, 2 = blue, etc.)
The FOR-Next with TIMER1 is to add a short little pause so you can actually see the color, and the GOTO is to loop it indefinetly. He he he... good virus look-alike op http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Change the autoexec.bat to load this vis, cuz you can't get out of it without rebooting http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif You'd have to use a boot disk http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I'd look up what the name of the function is (page something or another), but I burnt all my books on BASIC years ago.
