I HATE THAT! It just really means "Hi, I'd really like you to answer my problem, and I'll just put this 'Thanks in advance' thingy here to avoid taking the trouble of actually PERSONALLY thanking you for helping me with my problem." Does anyone else have a problem with this thing or is it just me?

They ARE personally thanking you, it's just... in advance http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

It's just to show that they're grateful if you can answer their query. If you answer them, they usually come back, read the solution, fix the problem, and thank you personally. Simple as that. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

I happen to like it when people take a little extra time to give gratitude.

Did I SAY there was anything wrong with manners? No. but to me it's like saying "thanks for my christmas present that I'll be getting" in July.

No, you didn't. I was just making a statement that there is a shortage of "thank you" references these days. Meant no offense ReD, seriously. Most thank you's that I get are often taken as insincere and just something which is added out of need, rather than want http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've always see it as a thank you for taking the time to consider my problem. The type of person who is polite enough to do this, most always is polite enough to thank you again once you've made an effort to help them out.

It's never bother'd me one bit. I'm much morfe bugged by the guys who get rude and impatient cause they don't get responded to within seconds or minutes of a post. Now that makes me not want to respond.

The only time that "thanks in advance" bugs me is when someone figures they then don't have to reply after receiving help because they already thanked me, and so then I never know whether or not my help actually helped. Doesn't happen very often, though.
