Sonique is now calling itself " the webs hottest media and mp3 player". I don't know about you but I don't want hot audio equipment in my house. [bitch qualifier]Sonique sucks like a bitch[/bitch qualifier] http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It's just truth in advertising. Sonique is more CPU intensive, so it makes your computer overheat, whereas Winamp keeps it cool.

Of course Sonique is hot. Is gets so hot from the friction as it is deleted, erased and kicked off users HDD's.

eeesht the lot of you! http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif Honestly comparing Sonique to WMP7 is like comparing Winamp to a festering boil bulging with pressurised pus waiting to erupt in an almightly shower of fetid dark vile decomposing flesh. It's just not pleasant. So don't do it! Have we got that yet? No... oh well never mind, it's like trying to convince Dougal the laws of perspective.... these ones are small... those ones are faaaar away....

Oh, just so Mule knows, 1808 is out for Sonique. It's also still slow and convoluted. But has ogg support built in... Not enough to make it GOOD, but a plus.
One of my major problems with Sonique is the fact that the "No Details" vis mode doesn't save when I exit the program. It sucks shit (among other things). Another thing is that the default skin is probably my favorite - scary... Of course, that's the way it is with QCD, too, which makes me glad that the Winamp folks are using a shitty purple default skin. That way people will make MUCH better skins to compensate. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Did I mention that I'm going to reformat my HD now? http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif. I was hoping that I'd be able to do it AFTER 2666 of WA came out, but oh well...
Is it just me, or are we having a shortage of updates on my cool software? Coolplayer - no new updates - QCD - Still 302, K-jofol - HA! K-Meleon - uh-uh - OGG encoder - nope. Life sucks.

Hey Red, 1.808 is chugging away quite nicely on my machine... as to the vis settings... well hardly any of the settings save... http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif It's crap but I live with it... not out of stupid masochist loyalty mind, but rather just becuase I like it... (duh? What does that make me then?) The only REAL improvement (aside from sound quality which I won't even go into http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif) is that when you press stop it actually stops now... previously it had to think about it for a very annoying little while...Urgh.
QCD 2.02? erm... 3.02 perhaps? Wasn't version 2 kind of dropped quietly whilst noone was watching....
As to defualt skins, the original Sonique one sucks the big hairy one, as in fact do all the other defualt player skins. QCD is seriously in need of some good new "family" skins... kids are okay but one wants different modes!
If I was a skinner I would shut up and put up, unfortuantly I'm way to lazy... oops.
Go reformat! Yay... isn't it nice to have a brand new clean OS installed... all nice and empty, fast and stable... Of course you then have to go and install all your programs.. by the time you're finished it's back to crawling again...-sigh- oh well. Before I discovered the joys of imaging it would take me around 2 days to get everything back the way I wanted it again... ouch.
Mule.

I never said 202, I said 302 http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/tongue.gif
I'm still looking to get a copy of win2k, then maybe I won't have to reformat so fucking often.
I actually like the default sonique skin. If anything the winamp original sucks shit. But that's OK, b/c nobody uses it!
Speaking of QCD2, I've still got 203, wich I have no problems with. I don't understand why folks got their panties in a bunch over it http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif. (it's still better than sonique!)
Ya know, !) kinda looks like jordi from ST.

Why would you have to reformat so much? I've had Windows 98 on my computer since I got it in the summer of '98, and haven't once had to reformat.

Do you have a special version of win98 that oddly enough doesn't crash? Eventually I just install/uninstall so much shit that I HAVE to reformat or my comp will auto-destruct.

Do you have all the updates (excluding the ones that suck) from Windows Update?
Do you have Norton Utilities? (It's not for everyone, but you definitely seem intelligent enough to use it properly.)
Do you install tons and tons of shareware that you don't really have any use for? Do you then uninstall most of it?

It seems that you people would rather bitch about Sonique's problems than think about one simple fact:
Sonique has an audio engine that makes Winamp seem like it's using a tin can for a DSP.
Sure, it's still got some vis problems and a slightly dodgy interface. But if you want to listen to music, use Sonique. If you want eye candy, try the Smear plugin for Sonique.
Good luck to Nullsoft with Winamp 3... to beat Sonique, they're gonna need it!

Win2K is perhaps not quite as bad as 98, but programs still crash.. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/frown.gif and when they do you have a new annoyance to deal with....Dr Watson!!!! Aaaargghhhhh... It writes a memory dump to disk every time something crashes. That's all well and nice, but obviously it's a pretty big file to write...so it churns and churns and churns and churns......you press cancel...it churns and churns and churns and churns... Urgh... a pain!
At least it can be turned off with a registry tweak.... but why no bloody simple option in the system properties?? Bah!
If you had the hdd space and hadn't filled it up with all those pesky MP3's you could just Image your system and then you would never have to reformat again!
Oh just as a side note, I've moved from LiteStep to DesktopX as an experiment. It's looking pretty funky but still has lots of silly bugs and not quite as many features as LiteStep. i.e. no skinnable Start menu / Programs list.
I'm working on a theme for it just now, heh I say that sounding as if I am making this great new thing when in fact I am just reworking someone elses hard work http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif bad me! Should have a WindowsBlinds skin for it as well soon enough. You know at this rate I might even think about doing a Winamp one... (After Sonique of course http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif)
I would say give it a try, the beta 0.50 out just now is freeware and it is dead simple to install/uninstall... no shell= or what have you http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.stardock.com/products/desktopx/

ooh, parasonic, I'm not EVEN gonna go there - aside from saying that Sonique can kiss my rosy pink butt.
Sorry Mule, but I'm not changing my shell for anything. http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Maybe I'll try another one eventually, but I'm really enjoying LS right now. I may start trying Darkstep, but only b/c it can use LS modules.
I know progs still crash in win2k, but i'm FUCKING TIRED OF HAVING TO REBOOT AFTER EVERY ONE! I heard that win2k dealt with crashes much better than other windows versions, that's why I'm gonna give it a try. Stop me if I shouldn't. Then there's that transparency thingy - neato.
I'm gonna have to format REALLY soon - I'll just post another topic about this...

Ohhh! LiteStep http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I wouldn't switch to anything else. I mean, windowblinds looks nice and all, but it's a fucking resource hog, and still retains the explorer look. DS, possibly. Desktop X, like mule said, fairly buggy. LS, on the other hand, let's me go with the ultraminamilist look, with only a minutirezed task bar and three things on the pop up menu. Plus, I got a hold of a nifty theme switcher. So, if I need to run something that requires explorer, or a more content-intense theme, it's only a matter of a few mouseclicks http://forums.winamp.com/ubb/smile.gif
And I don't see what's the problem with the base skin. For starters, it's blue/black (depending on monitor, ambient lighting, point of refernece in the skin and rgb management of vid card), but definitely not purple. Very elegant, and tres simple. Goes fucking amazing with my LS setup. Black on black. Sweet. The buttons are crisp and clear, and, well, I just love it to death. When I wanna take a walk on the wild side, I just may load up Dada Skin, or If I want eye candy, spy amp pr it is, but other than that, the base skin works splendidly.

The good: Plays streaming audio; lots of plug-ins enhance the player's performance; huge online collection of skins to customize player's appearance.
The bad: Interface has a bland, outdated look.
The bottom line: Winamp gives the best playback sound quality of all the free players. And its many plug-ins, built-in browser, and add-ons make Winamp one of our favorite MP3 players.
