View Full Version : times out before dial-up established

Just a minor annoyance, but starting with ver. 2.7 I can no longer just double-click on a shoutcast URL in order to launch Winamp and establish a dial-up connection. By the time Windows' Dial-up Manager finishes its thing, Winamp says it has timed out. Is there some kind of setting for how long it will wait? Thanks.

check the file associations.
make sure that a .pls or .m3u file opens with winamp so it will open when you stream it.
it could be that it is trying to find the association and it can't find it and it is taking too long.
note: the file associations are in the folder options menu in windows explorer.

Thanks, but no, Winamp is doing everything right--when I click on a shoutcast URL (or a shoutcast bookmark), it knows it needs an internet connection, and so if I'm not already connected it tells Windows to launch it's dialler thingee. Everything works fine, but by the time Windows has dialled and established a connection, Winamp has quit waiting. Since it used to wait long enough (before v2.7), I was just wondering if there is some setting I can make.

try finding an older version of winamp @ http://www.winampheaven.com
if that can't fix it, I don't know what.

I think he is talking about listeneing to streams and not broadcasting. Have you tried dbl clicking ht eplaylist item once the dial-up connection has been made. Many things can time out in the time it takes for a dialup connection to be made.

Ok but if he is tring to stream in dail up do not try it. Very bad idea if you are gona stream do it with dsl or cable. Dial up can not haddle it hell at 40K if you are lucky what kind of quility would your stream be very bad.
