My 18 year-old brother is such a pain in the ass! He's a hard core gamer, having just about every single consoles on the damn market. PS, PS2, Dreamcast, you name it! ALL paid for by my wealthy, kind wife. He even has a kick-ass Athlon 1000 Mhz, 256 nuclear-powered SDRAM, two hard disks totalling up to a planet-gobbling 29 GB, and a Voodoo 4 3D Graphics Card!
And everytime he gets bored of a game, guess who he come to ask for recommendations AND money for games - me. When I tell him to decide for himself, he would say "Come on! You're veteran!"
Just because I kicked your ass in every single damn game of TA, Tiberian Sun, Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3: Arena, Jedi Knight and Tekken 3 does that mean I'm a veteran? So it's always MY job to go buy him a game that will satisfy his hunger.
And now he's already bored with the Red Alert 2 I shoved in his mouth a month ago.
MY GOOODDDD!!!! HE IS FREAKING ME OUT!!!! Please, just vote for the best game in your opinion for each and every single platform you've played on, and please make sure it lasts long, so my brother would shut up longer!

I really Liked Deus Ex, I think that should keep one busy on the holidays ;)
But whatever you do, Don't spend precious money on "Hitman/Codename:47" It is one of the most disappointeing games I have ever played. Only twelve missions which I finished in two days, PLUS it pretends to be an action/realistic game, and it actually IS, for the first 4 or 5 missions...until they start throwing in the so called bosses, like a columbian drug lord into whom I pumped 500+ minigun rounds before he would die! Friggin' anoying :D

Please people, I need to shut my brother up AS LONG AS POSSIBLE IN THE ENTIRE DAMN WORLD! Give me a suggestion of game that is damnably good fun to play, lasts very long and hugely replayable - or any personal favorites! Half Life is not an acceptable answer - cos he said; "It sounds so crap! Trying to dodge everything your enemy throw at you. With such a crappy-sounding game like that I could never get beyond level 2!"
Well, I DON'T WANT you to get beyond level 2!

Starcraft is always a great game - and I guarantee he won't be beating some of the folks on battle.net.
It sounds like your brother is spoiled. I think you should tell him to be thankful for what he has, b/c some of us don't have quake 3 or a ghz processor.

SMB3 is the best game ever. Ah, that's my vote.
Hmm if only he got HL when it was released. Kept me busy for two years, but now its old and overrun with Valve-sponsored mods catering to newbs.
But based on that, just suggest to him that he join a clan for some team game. If the clan can manage to schedule practices and regular matches, the team game should last longer in your brother's situation. I mean, organized matches are the greatest thing in the world. Perhaps not for Team Fortress anymore, but a spinoff mod...

One of the best computer multiplayer games i have ever played is a game called Tanarus. Its a really awesome online game where you are a tank on a team of 4 other people and you battle against 3 rival teams. I know what you are thinking. You probably think it sucks. But no, its actually quite addicting. I remember a summer where i played it about 6 hours a day every day until 5 in the morning. I've always liked multiplayer games because it puts you up against real people instead of stupid AI computer controlled drones. The graphics in the game are really awesome. You can play in the rain, at night (the day lasts about an hour or so and the night is about 20 minutes), and in other situations. I reccomend some type of 3d card though. In order to see the shields around the tanks, the shock waves from the frag shells, and the sunlight rays, you have to have some form of a 3d acclerator.
There are a variety of tanks, each with their own weaknesses and advantages. There are also many weapons and different styles of play. I reccomend it to anyone who is willing to play fair on a team and is looking for a great game.
The system requirements aren't all that big either. It would run super-wicked on an athlon 1ghz. It also used to cost money, like $20 a month. But for some reason, its offered free now. This means that the traffic increased ALOT since it became free. This means more newbies and stuff for target practice :). If you would like to play, the game itself is like 7 or 8 megs. After that, you sign up on the website and then you are off playing. The web address is http://www.tanarus.com . Have fun!

I live in Korea, the Starcraft capital of the universe. More Starcraft was sold in Korea (pop. 44 million) than the rest of the world! There are even 2 (two!) cable shows about it.
I reccommend it for your brother. He will NEVER beat any Korean player on Battlenet, I guarandamntee it. But it should keep him interested.
Personally I don't like it, but that's because I've gotten my ass kicked a few too many times by middle schoool students. However, I can kick anyone's ass at Rainbow Six or Age of Kings, The Conquerors.

Llamatron :D
Tetris
Samurai Shodown series (#2 is my favorite)
Shock Troopers 2nd Squad
Last Blade series
Darkstalkers series
Street Fighter series
Megaman series
Metroid series
Castlevania series
Minesweeper
Freecell
Blaster Master
Contra series
Descent series
Battletoads
Secret of Mana (haven't tried the sequels, but they're probably good too)
The Guardian Legend
Actraiser
R-Type series
Bubble Bath Babes (just kidding :D)
Mugen (a customizable fighting game engine)
Just give the guy some emulators and links to some ROM sites. That should keep him occupied for a few months (if not years), and for free.

Ah, Starcraft. Or rather, what we Total Annihilators refer to as either "StarCrap", "RahCraft" or "StarCunt". I call it something a little less polite than the other three. But I betta shut up now, cos my wife's the best Starcraft-er I've ever seen.
He tried that, and it seemed to have lasted two days, though I can still bust him raiding his mates with millions of Zerglings right to this very day...
Anyway, please, keep the suggestions coming.

Sacrifice is a fun/difficult game which requires you to readjust strategy a lot. It also has a HUGE replay value because you can choose different gods to ally with along the way. It's mainly a real time strategy game with some rpg elements.
Giants is good too. I just got that game. Good action game which also requires strategy. Amazing graphics. And it has a topless sea reaper he can stare at if he gets bored of the game. Lots of missions, but I don't think it has a very high replay value. Check a site like gamespot.com for reviews and stuffs.

TA : Kingdoms sucks ass. I tried the demo and two minutes and I'm put off. Jerky, slow, unweildy, and has a violence value of a teddy bears' hug.
But the original TA, ah yes, is a dream.
TAUniverse.com's slogan for TA is; "It really whips the StarCrapper's ass!"
I personally don't really care what those gimps over at TAUniverse.com say...

EC, what genre is your brother into? Otherwise, your brother can look into The Sims with the expansion pack. At first, the game looks really lame but it is addictive. I'm not joking, your brother will get so submerged into the lives of his people. hah, you'll have to peel him from the computer, but the game does get really old. It's a bit too repetitive, otherwise it's a good game.

Hey kaboon - you know you need to shot gannon with silver arrows and then hit him with the magic sword, right?
And i think, extremecricizer, to judge a game by its violence is rather shallow... i'm sure you didnt really like
tetris either since when you arranged the pieces in a line
they didnt explode in a burst of blood and gore.... ;)

Larry??!!!
Dumb... Un-witty... Sexist... About as funny as that "George, check the mike" joke when it is told two weeks after the election... The graphics reminds me of Wolfenstein 3D, except without the blood and gore that made Wolf 3D so good...
Larry? No Larry, please, you sickens me.

Aw, forgot about my recent fav, "Shogun, Total War" ...
an excellent balance of turn based map play, realtime strategy, and diplomacy. Plus, their's killer geishas; to think, there's simply no other game can you kill enemy players with killer prostitutes.... ;) Many game magazines
call the battles "Right out of Kurosawa films" if you're
up to a hard but fun strategy game ya'should try it :)

FFVI (they call it III here in America) is the finest crafted console game ever made. Lots of secrets and tricks, and has some of the best music ever made, on any platform, all out of a little SNES. Over on the PC side, Alpha Centrauri still give me "hunched over the keyboard for hours on end" back pain after a year and a half.
