I'm in my first year of spanish.
Soy en mi ano primero de espanol (I slaughered that, I know.)
Estoy en mi primer año de españoles (per the babelfish)

Therefore making your first sentence "I'm in my first anus of Espanol (which doesn't mean anything I'm aware of without the ñ)
Estoy en mi año primero de español.
You were perfect except for the ñ's and soy/estoy. Although I'm not completely sure about the soy/estoy thing.
My whole point was about ano=anus, though.
Which is better?
Tengo 200 años. (I am 200 years old)
Tengo 200 anos. (I have 200 buttholes)

Estar (estoy) is just used for generally temporary things - locations, emotions, etc.
Ser (soy) is for [usually] non-changing states like names, religion, and place of birth.
