Estoy en mi primer año de españoles (per the babelfish)

Therefore making your first sentence "I'm in my first anus of Espanol (which doesn't mean anything I'm aware of without the ñ)

Estar (estoy) is just used for generally temporary things - locations, emotions, etc.

Ser (soy) is for [usually] non-changing states like names, religion, and place of birth.
