World Domination Contenders

One of my friends today had just asked me a very interesting question which I couldn't answer:

"If the world is destined to be dominated by a single administrative body, who would be the contenders and who will finally win?"

I was stumped, I don't know what could I say to her, maybe you people can answer this question for me.

It is clearly evident that corporations are slowly becoming more powerful than governments... I believe that a consortium of a couple corporations will eventually not "own" the world per se, but will invest so much money in "owning" the worldly governments that the world will be in effect owned by them.

Among these companies... Microsoft for sure... and one super
large media corp. (AOL-Time Warner maybe...)
the rest still need to go through more mergers/aquisitions...
