View Full Version : This is the suckinest Tech Support System

...on the planet!

Fer Pete's sake! You waste your time. You answer the same questions over and over and over. Why? Because qualified technical writers aren't writing the questions. Because answered questions aren't put in one place: A knowledge base. And probably because the moderators here aren't really tech support people, or aren't getting paid. I know one moderator who works for this site who is moderating the boards for free! No pay!

If I wanna use music in a broadcast, and have full freedom to play what I want, I gotta BMI or APCAP (or whatever it is) nearly $300). Why? Cause the labels hold the copyright, and BMI and APSAP wholesale yearly licences. The music adds value to

a. A radio station
b. Broadcasters
c. Department stores.
etc.

And Winamp can't afford to pay real tech support people and make a real tech support system? Think of the value these people add to this site! Don't expect me to answer any questions. That adds value and is worth money. (that's all you ever think about -- this is a business).

And your FAQ! What a joke! Hey, I'm really interested in chat room jargon. Like "RTFF = Read the fucking faq!" - a quote out of the faq! NOW THAT'S REALLY HELPFUL! I'm reading your FAQ and you tell me to read your FAQ!

Now, you got your banner at the top of these boards. There is room for you to put a link to a real FAQ, and a link to real tech support pages, i.e. a knowledge base on either side of this banner of yours. There's room for a button to a FAQ for the boards. And theres' plenty of room to put a link to known issues! But you're either too cheap to pay someone to do this, or too stupid to realize how much time you waste (and all of us readers, collectively). All that time has value! Right? Time = money, no? You need to buy a licence to waste our time, just as we need a licence to broadcast music!

No wonder Winamp is free! It has major tech support problems! And to think that Winamp, and Winamp.com are owned by one the LARGEST AND HOTTEST CORPORATIONS IN AMERICA! - AMERICA ONLINE! A billion dollar business, who can't get their shit together and make decent tech support.

And I'm not the only one complaining. I've seen three or four of these threads that bitch about the tech support! How many does it take?

You won't get an AVS library from me. I'll make no more Locker room shows. I won't answer questions for you either. And if you wanna know how to make a knowledge base from someone that knows how to make a knowlege base, that'd be me! You can't afford me.

So people should be paid to ask common questions like how to turn everything into wav and back? I'm sure you would love to be paid to answer questions, but by your attitude, and your remark about "you can't afford me", who'd want to hire you?

These forums have helped many a user, and if used correctly, one could be able to find the questions they want, especially in the TSGH. And you get real user feedback from people who use it and love it, not just some guy put through "vigorous" training on a program that is not really all that trivial.

The moderators are exactly what they are, they moderate the discussions in the forums and it doesn't necessarily make them tech support. And they don't get paid (as far as I know).

I definitely prefer forum tech support that's clear and trustworthy and powered by a bunch of willingly helpful (and fun :D) users over waiting for corporate tech support.

Another post ranting about how crap we are Elrod?

Methinks you need to pull your head out of your thinking parts.

I have to agree with Jstalilwyrd (Though I hate having to copy/paste your username... :D). Forums give us a fairly fast TS option, and with some pretty knowledgeable users here you can pretty much get any question answered, winamp related or not.

Even though this is a qualified bitch, Elrod, it's going too far. In short, piss off!

Nullsoft is against the corporate world, that is why they are more "laid-back" i guess you would say
and they could afford to pay people, it is after all, AOL's money:)
but if you are paid, it becomes a job, no more fun:(
this is a friendly enviroment, where you can talk about whatever the hell you want (within reason).
it is not meant to be a strict tech-support forum.
knowledge base? we here know alot of stuff, we are all genius'
so have some fun

something to add,
i have always gotten GREAT tech support, not only for winamp, but for anything

not all of us think in crapitolist ways. some of us do this just because we support nullsoft. if you have a problem with that, fuck off.

Personally, I like to come to the forums when I have a question or need help. I've found many answers to my questions and picked up on some tips and tricks along the way. I'd rather come here and take a look around than wait for hours on the phone or wait for days for someone to send me an e-mail that explains nothing. So what if these guys don't get paid! They're obviously here because they enjoy what they do and because they support the Nullsoft concept. I, for one, really appreciate that. If you don't like it and can't accept it, then there's the door...
That's my dollars worth of input for the day...
