Hey forum users!
I am about to help a client debut the remake of thier site. One of the new features on thier site is 5 shoutcast streams. My question is this: "Do I need to get licensing from ASCAP or BMI to do this or is it legal to streams without the licensing?"

I'd really appreciate this information as it will either harm my client or enhance thier site.

Thanks!

Well Line, I'm not a lawyer or anything, but if their site is just giving links to regular old shoutcast streams I dont see the problem. Lots of people link their streams on their webpages. I'm not aware of any "limits" to how many streams you can run at the same time. I know some more well known shoutcasts have "credits" and other leagal copyright jargin that run but I always thought it was just to give it that "radio feel." Basically the shoutcast technology and setting up a stream is on the level. I think the only way you could get in trouble is if your stream was a tool to somehow make you money.

just my .02. Again, I'm not a lawyer. You may want to head over to shoutcast.com and read up on their leagal mumbo-jumbo.
