View Full Version : Schoutcast streams now played by real-player..!?

I have tried all the logical and some less logical changes to the config of both winamp <newest> and realplayer <newest> to get the shoutcast streams played by the winamp and not by the realplayer which started some time back.

Another thing I notice is that with the German version of Windoze ME and the accomp. IE5.5 - I previously did not have this otherwise common problem of the schoutcast stuff causing a "save or open" request window.

So for a whole while things were "dicky-boo" - and then suddenly <don`t ask me now what had been done on that day ... I wish I knew..!> this buisness of the shoutcast stuff going to the (far far inferior playback quality..!) real-player instead of the winamp.

Now what...! [Bye the way - please don't ask this old guy to mess with winreg.. jeez - that is too scary.. and a reason to have smarter people writing little bug-fix programmes that do it for one .. or...? : = ) ]

Go back to Windows98SE, WindowsME is way to buggie at this time. Give Microsoft about a year to clean it up. Windows2K is even better than WindowsME.

Are you using RealPlayer 8? If so, I believe you can fix your problem by opening RealPlayer, going to View/Preferences, clicking the Upgrade tab, and going down to the Media Types section. Click the Re-Associate button, and uncheck the boxes that are next to MPEG audio and MP3 Playlists. Hell, uncheck them all, that way RealPlayer will only play RealMedia files. It might also be a good idea to disable RealPlayer's Start Center if you have it enabled.

That should take care of the problem, although you may have to reinstall Winamp again. Maybe not, though.

Re associate the mp3 file extensions to WinAmp...Simply go to Start > Run > <type in> WinFile and then edit the .mp3 file extension to the Program File for Winamp...That should take care of your problem...

IBC...Quit being so hard on Windows ME...Because it did not work for you does not mean it did not work for others... I for one, have no problems with it and never had, but 98SE gave me a great amount of frustration...

winamp playlist files(*.pls)<for shoutcast and mp3's everything that is not propriatory to ms media player or (*.avi's for apple's thing.. - the lot are already associated with winamp according to the file association list.

To be honest - I am now betting on having a pal of mine down at the w.end who has studied informatics in uni- and am hopeing that he will have a successful "dig" in the win registry - which I myself "fear to tread..!"

Keep you informed.
