How To Use SB Live Platinum 5.1 Remote w/ Winamp:

If you have a SB Live Platinum 5.1, you'll probably notice that the remote control is, well, less than functional outside of Creative's proprietary programs. Here's how to get it working with WinAMP and pretty much any other program which uses keyboard shortcuts:

(OK, it's not a plugin at all, but it gives great new functionality to winamp one only expects from a great plugin :)

I grabbed the winamp v1.x sample KEY file from remote centre and pasted it in the Creative KEY folder in my C:
I run winamp and when I push the remote nothing has changed!

I also installed PCRemote and KeyCutter and made my own files - but I can't seem to get anything to change. e.g. Whilst running Winamp, I Click "Next" on the remote and "Page Down" comes on screen (Same as before).

Advice or Help anyone.

this kicks major ass! yay! i've never had a practicle use for the remote untill now! thanks soooo much for posting this.

i just relized thqat you don't even need this plugin to be able to control winamp.

with your remote, just press start twice then choose Winamp 2.x. then go for it. works fine. but you can't control as manny features as you can with the plugin.

I just downloaded the program. It kicks major ass, all right! I was beginning to get frustrated with the remote that came with my Platinum 5.1 since it could not be used for winamp, no matter what I tried. The remote was relegated to being the volume control for my system, until I discovered this "plug-in". Finally, a REAL use for the remote. :)

wow, a remote for winamp! how convenient. i don't have SB Live Plat. but i do have Hauppauge Wintv with a remote. Does anybody know how to make that remote work with winamp. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Also if i could make it work for my dvd player too.

Never mind my last reply. I found a website that has a free program on it that lets me setup my remote to work with any program that i know the shortkeys. very easy to use. here is the website for anybody that is interested. http://www.remotecommander.cjb.net/

Turtle beach ( http://www.turtlebeach.com ) sells a remote for 40 bucks, it's infra-red so it goes through walls. You get the software from http://www.meidiatexx.com - costs 20 but its worth it (30 day free trial) and you can do anything. It also has a plugin for winamp so you can use winamp instead of the Audiostation software it comes with (it sucks!)
