Yes you should always backup if possible. I've had hard disk problems before.

and what sort of pictures are those picture files Sargeant. I hope you're talking smilies and such? :D

Oh yes, smilies of course. :D I've kept every single bitmap frame of every single smilie I've ever made. That's a helluva lot of frames, considering that some of my smilies can have upwards of 30 frames. :)

How come "virii" is not listed as a valid plural for "virus" at http://www.dictionary.com?

Anyways, the plural of "virus" in my dictionary is "viruses"... It's in a Webster's dictionary, not my 73-lb. multilingual dictionary. :p

I explained that. When you pluralize a 'us', it becomes an 'i'.

Take radius. You have an 'i' before the 'us', therefore, the plural of radius is 'radii'.

Now look at cactus. You have a 't' before 'us'. So, the plural form is 'cacti'. You only get double i when there is an 'i' before 'us'.

In conclusion, dictionary.com and myself are correct. Webster's is not.

You wish to know why? When ever you pluralize a word that ends in a long vowel sound, such as 'antenna', the ending is changed to a long 'e' sound ('eee'). So, antenna becomes antennae, and virus becomes viri (exception to the case are words like banana and cacti. It's pronounced 'cac-aye'. There are specific cases when the end is pronounced 'eee', and what these cases are, I do not know).

Now, take radius... you have an 'i' that you must pronounce; ray-dee-us

The plural form should be, according to the rule, 'ray-dee'; however, there is still that extra 'i', thus, it becomes 'ray-dee-aye'

With virus, there is no extra 'i', thus, instead of being pronounced 've-ree-aye', it's pronounced 've-ree'.
