Plugin Suggestion

I stack DSP plugins to get to get effects not possible otherwise. I know everybody does it. What I think could be useful is a plugin that can vary the sound level from max to min and without changing the sound in any other way. It'd be useful in cases where the ouput of one plugin overdrives the next in line. A case I've run into often. I know about the EQ preamp adjustment but sometimes adjusting it doesn't work if you're using say a compressor/limiter plugin right after it. I also have tried Alien DSP but adds a subtle coloration and pops up everytime you invoke Winamp. I just need something small. Does anyone know of a plugin like this or has some time on their hands to write one?
