I'd love to see it ported to Linux, but there's one problem... WINamp. Maybe it'd be Linamp? Heh, naah, they could still call it Winamp because Winamp rocks, where Windows doesn't. :) I hope all of you programmers are listening! Justin, Brennan, Cristophe, Francis, everybody else, let us know, is X-Windows in Winamp's future? :)

Right, XMMS is a pretty nice amp for Linux. It supports Wa2x skins, and has most capabilities of Winamp. I saw their ad looking for someone with Linux programming experience though, so who knows about Wa3... ;)

XMMS is ok, but nothing compared to Winamp. One of the few reasons that I don't use linux is because Winamp isn't out for it.

Alright, I'm going to yell at the next frikking sicko who doesn't realize that WINAMP SHOWS UP IN A WINDOW, NO MATTER WHAT OS YOU USE! It's a WINDOW whether it's in Linux, the Mac OS, or Windows. That little rectangular thing? IT'S STILL A WINDOW, DAMMIT!
Why do people not see that?
is X-Windows in Winamp's future?
There. Windows. See? I don't care if there's a friggin X in front of it or not. The boxes are still windows.
Alright.
Now the apology part.
Sorry for ripping you open, but that reasoning sucks. Nothing personal, I'm just sick of this "You should rename it to Linamp if you make it for Linux" crap. No matter what operating system you have, the rectangular things that let you see what you're doing are still called windows.

Works great in Wine. (But I think xmms is better than a wine'd winamp.)

Why do people not see that?Because Winamp 3 will no longer be necessarily rectangular? :D
Let's call it Widgetamp!!!

LOL, I was j/k about Linamp... Winamp rocks and the name fits it. I would never rename it. Don't take me too seriously. :P

hmmm.... I think he meant to say:
Sorry for [thinking in my own little universe that I had] ripped you open, but [in my one dimensional boxed in world where everything absolutely must be taken in the most extreme seriousness] that reasoning sucks.
man.... some people just can't take a joke.

How can his world be boxed in? Boxing in requires a box, and remember, this is a one-dimensional world. :p

hmm... maybe it's a one dimentional box.
something like:
(line represents the one dimension)
_____________.__:mad: <--Semiforous __._____________
the two periods represent the box. Hmm... however they don't really stick out like that... they are just box material inside that line. Argh... it's hard to explain things in 1 dimensions :D

cool winamp might be on linux
here's what i found at www.nullsoft.com
What does Nullsoft make?
Winamp - The de facto audio player for the Windows platform, as well as a powerful web site to accompany it. Soon to be the multi-platform audio playback platform (phew!).

Damit - it's taken the other quote out- damn forums that dont let allow quoted quotes ;) , anyway - fixed.
Back to my first point, sorry to dissapoint, but Id think the multiplatform thing's probably referring to the mac version

how about calling the damn thing X-amp?
it sounds good.
since the latest "microsoft windows" is Xp.
the mac-os is X
and for linux, well...let say we make one ahead, but it still works with redhat, slackware, etc (v. 6, 7, 8, etc)
hehe =]
A universal name.
but other than that, they can make the same program, but different name, like Winamp, MacAmp [sic], Linamp. Solaramp (solaris, LOL)

Sorry, I know this is technically cross-posting, I already posted this to the wishlist, but there may be a few folks on this thread'd like to be notified about this.
there's an .rpm some folks might be interested in downloading here:
http://ftp24e.newaol.com/winamp/client/Winamp-0.a1-1.i386.rpm
Discussion seems to be going on in this thread:
