After spending literally weeks on listening tests I have settled on what I feel is the best combination of DSP plugins and their settings. These have spurred me on to upgrade to Klipsch THX 2.1 speakers. Of course, your tastes will vary and so will your combination and settings. Anyway, here is what I use and it is at least a good starting point:
1. DSP Stacker v. 1.6 from: http://www.spacialaudio.com/download.php?plugin=7
Unlike the other this one worked with 99% of the plugins I tried.
2. Dee DSP v. 1.12 is a free and some feel superior alternative to DFX. In this case it did sound better.
Get it from http://dsp-dee.prv.pl/.
Settings: Bass Amp: 6, Bass Dyn: heavy, Bass Frq: 220hz
Mid Amp: 6
Treb Amp: 6, Treb Dyn: heavy, Treb Frq: 4khz
3d Amp : 0
Reverb: room
3. Wide & Dynamix v 1.0. Get from Winamp DSP Plugins section. Controls: Wide Stereo and a kind of "Room Reverb" called "Life",Compressor with rise and fall time adjustments labeled "Up" and "Down", Output "Volume" control. Settings: Since the control panel uses pictures of analogue knobs and meters the settings will be decribled as clock times:
Mono-Wide: 3:00
Life: 9:00
Dynamic Up: 12:00
Dynamic Down: 9:00
Volume: 12:00
4. SHOUTenhance Wide-Stereo plugin. This is from the author of Alien DSP. Get it from:
http://www.spaceports.com/~allenc/products/shoutenh.shtml. . Don't use the Wide Stereo feature of Alien DSP, they are not the same. This adds a wider stereo image and some delayed reverb. It complements # 3 above very nicely. No djustments, but using the "Mono-Wide" control of #3 above does the trick.
That's it. If anyone else has any favorites please put it in a post. I'm always looking for new DSPs.
