I'd just like to say that we're too hard on newbies. I won't mention names, but swearing at someone because they used a skinner is not acceptable. Neither is starting a flame war because someone took your comment the wrong way. We were definitely too harsh and evil to Bojanglez (until his last thread :mad: ), and thinking back to soundscape, I don't even remember what he did that was that bad. And when somebody does something to piss you off, then apologizes or fixes it, let it go! That's all I have to say for now. You know who you are (I hope).

I have tried to make my apologies known and have tried to dispel what angst I had against the person in question. But, if you do not believe that I was sincere in my approach by all means let me know. I did carry over some of the argument however, for that I am sorry. However, I tried again to dispel this over many times. And accept him for who/what he is. As I said before...its not the comments or the review that pissed me off and its not even Mr. Bojanglez. Its rather the system that is the culprit. I cannot blame someone for doing what they think is right or wrong its not my place. However, I can be just as upset at how the system corrupts. And at first I was very upset and made myself as corrupt as anyone else.

But, your right flattmatt there definatly is an abhoration for new members that borderlines on making them feel as if they were walking bombs.


Even when I first started posting...Jayn was curious to know why I had said something and everyone went off as though I was the culprit of some destruction. However, My review/comment of her skin was 5 Stars and I had said that the following "NICE ASS SKIN..." "YOU SUCK!"

My way of saying damn I wish I could do that.

But, it was indeed taken the wrong way and I recall seeing a forum started with 60 Posts before I had even said anything.

Anyways I am rambling and its likely that I got my point across if I had one.

I think the forums have a history of being mean to newbies. I remember an instance a couple months ago in GenDisc when a member named "Overactive Bladder" started insulting many regulars. Then someone hacked his e-mail. Someone else signed him up for gay porn mailings. I protested the actions. This was probably the first time in at least a month I had posted outside of Skin Love/Tech Support. I still can't believe how poorly we can treat newbies.

But, Bojanglez, you're still blocked on my AIM.

honestly garet i have no beef with u, my problem is not with jayn either. My main problem isn't even with flatmatt. Actually garet to tell u the truth, ur one of the only ppl in here that I actually have respect for. Even though u still hate me, but hey who doesn't. Too many ppl have "alliances" in here. I mean for once let ppl fight their own battles. Its ur own fault things explode out of control.

O and by the way garet, the rating system does suck.

However, there are some that create more issue than they do to try and figure out why the anger. In the case noted above from your first post. This person did reflect quite abit of anamosity towards a great many folks. As this is a dead ringer for producing many an upset individual you have ask yourself whether or not to fight for a losing battle.

While amongst the others in a forum designed by Mr. Bojanglez. I was playing and just being well mostly friendly (evil grin), that is after things had been resolved I even asked Mr. Bojanglez not to chane his review althought it was entitled Garet Stop Crying...and messaged Happy Now. I actually like this better because, it was more humourous to me and I said that very thing. And started just joking around with Mr. Bojanglez. Now, the one thing to note here is that Mr. Bojanglez asked for comments/info about a new skin he was making I had said and I quote :"...That is the ulgiest thing I have ever seen." Now, while this is pretty harsh it was true. And I Reposted saying "just because, someone doesn't like what you are doing doesn't mean your right or wrong...just means that they don't like it." or something to that matter.

Anyways, when I write comments/info about a skin I generally won't hold back. As a rule being nice about something never will make it better rather its usually kept about the same level. But, when comments are made that are truthful and honest we end up with a reality level drawn.

I don't know if this is carrying the argument further...If so I am sorry. Not intended to do that here. I rather intend to identify everything that I have said and why that I believe this has continued. Although, I have not really been the willing counterpart.

If I cast my mind back to your original post regarding your skin, and how you wanted comments on it, I do remeber giving you plenty of advice and pointers on how to improve it, did you ever say thanks for that.

I might also point on when someone within this forum suggested we head over to you web site and flame you on your boards, that I suggested that this was a bad action, after all tit for tat never solved anything.

As for who changed your title, well it has been changed several times by several people, you have angered a good many differnt people on this board,so think careful before you take direct aim.

You also in some underhand way inuslted a much loved member of this community, an act that got your thread locked, not by me I might add, you didn't seem to care that your actions again angered a great deal of people.

You may insult me to your hearts content, I neither am concerend or bothered by your actions, but if you are gonna do so, please try to type it correctly, have a heck of a time reading some of you posts.

If you think I'm an ideal moderator or not is also not really my concern, I was asked to do this by the people who run this site, I don't get paid for it, I do it to give something back to the site that gives me so much in the first place. As I said, wasn't it me who gave you the massive bug report list on your skin?, is that the action of someone who dosn't care?

As you say your entitled to your opinion, a fact I would never argue with, free speech is at the very heart of what these forums are about.

Now you've been asked by several people in here to be civil towards others, don't you think it's time to stop all the arguments and get on with some skin love, why don't you show us what you've been cooking lately?, show us some skin, that's what it's all about after all :)

Four score and many months ago I joined the winamp.com
forums. With the idea that I would make skin love my new
home on the net. Before I joined, I spent 2 months lurking,
reading posts and generally getting a feel for the atmosphere.
I felt that I did it the right way. To many people believe
the web forums are a place to do whatever they feel like.
Like enter places with no respect and expect respect in
return. I believe we have a responibility to be open and
real. To guide those who have not the maturity to be civil.
I have failed at times, but always try my best. I will
admitt that it has been difficult with the age group of the
people here at winamp. Which is why, I completely stopped
visiting Gen Dis.
I have considered Skin Love to be one of the few places
on the net that had real people, being true to themselves
and proving that the net was indeed could be a civil place.
Being a poet, I have been a member of many groups and it
is true that artists and poets are quite senistive.
This makes for interesting forums. Most are also smart,
funny and witty. But this also causes problems with ego.
But this is the one place that I believe it has been kept
in check.
But the rest of the forums here at winamp have been a
breeding ground for flamewars. I have always believed that
the major dude thing was a bad idea. To many times have I
seen this cause problems. I always feared that it was
going to bleed over into Skin Love. And It is one of the
reasons why I have choosen to for-go being a regular here.
Call me strange, but before I left I felt a bad karma
falling over all the forums here. I don't know what it is.
But I believe it's here. I know the mods and regulars do
their best to control this. But I'm going to need to observe
for a while before I decide it's gone.
O.K. I'll tell the facts. My machine was hacked and I
believe it was someone from the winamp forums. I have no
way to prove it. But it happened. That is why I left.
I don't know if someone didn't like my story I wrote or
my wa3 skin I made. But I don't need the hassel, so I had
to choose between the group or the worry of another attack.
I choose to lay low.
Well, now you all know the truth. I think it shows how
rotten some people can be. But it has not ruined my faith
in mankind on the net. I am indeed honored to have been a
part of this group.

Also, I am impressed with the maturity of the younger
people in this group. Flatmatt, One T. BG, Xerxes, Amp,
And many others.

So with that, I will stop rambling. But i'd like to say.
Xerxes great work with the contest. Bravo. Flatmatt, Nice
work on Liquid fire presets. BG, Your just plain a good man.
Simon, Garetjax, Your smart guys and it's nice to see a
forgiving spirit. The rest of you know That you have my

Well to be honest I considered writing something a bit sarcastic and melodramatic. But, its just not approriate. I don't know if what you nominated me for rings home, however I do know that with me did this start and with me did I try to end it. My ability to solve this was horrendous and my ability to keep it out of the forum was even worse off. Now, I can help you to resolve your 'hacking' issue if you wish. My E-Mail would gladly accept your request.

There are some things that I am however disgusted at (not dealing with winamp.com).
1. The nature of Forums to belittle, beguile or single individuals out.
2. The nature of man of and in itself.
3. Young Artistic Students struggling for words to set them free.


I believe that we all have been expecting too much of the crowd that would enjoy seeing what their developers are doing.

Come on guys 99.9% of us were users before we skinned. And in such many of these guys although they may be 'assanine' its what they expect to get from a Forum Group. Imagine you got to speak to the guy that did your paintjob on your car and you wanted to know how he got the color on so nicely, or the edges how did he do that. In most cases the guy does give you a bullshit answer. But, if it were a real answer with real dedication would you then feel really kewl?

Wouldn't you feel good and you showed him how much respect you had because, you were so interested. Sure, the people that may come in here have attitudes could you honestly blame them for that.

Now, on the part of rating and reviews: I am the worst there can be regarding my hatred for them from my vantage point. Regardless, it is my perogative to retaliate and not to do the same thing. I do spell things out quite literally for the individual and I do go a bit overboard.

I don't know I may be rambling but, the picture is clear.


When the next new guy comes in:
Remember, that one of use here is the guy that made the skin he believes is the most wonderful thing that he has ever made. To that end wouldn't you try to help him/her with it...if they had problems. ???

I love them actually. They are the guy's and girls that need help, and I'm willing to lend a hand. But Mr. Bojanglez you just started the wrong way.

I wasn't here when the previous flame-war was going on. (since I did not visit these forums for over 8 months)
But I've been a newbie once and people helped me (Jayn/xrexes/ampburner/Dunan/DoubleG/Drop_point/Ice/ Zeruel and so on) , and i want to help the newbie's just as people helped me in to these forums and skinning projects.
