Hi,
I started broadcasting using live365 on the 16th of June 2001, then came to know about Shoutcast, and now(as of 11th July 2001) I am broadcasting through my computer live, through "Shoutcast", and am more than happy to get rid of live365. I really thank "Shoutcast" and their team for this excellent service they have developed!
Now I have a very serious problem, during my earlier broadcasts, I noticed that an SCML/Side Band commercial radio station, use to log on to my website, and record songs off my website.
I was more than surprised, one day when I accidently tuned into their radio station, I could listen to all MY Songs, in the same sequence too!
I now need to find out this particular users IP address, and ban him for life, from listening to my radio broadcast.
Please Help me, am a little new to things, I need to
1. Identify this particular user (Commercial Radio Station)
and
2. Ban him/her from logging on to my broadcast.(How to use any of the features, that allow ban function)
Please Help!
Sean

I'm not a specialist but here's what I'd do.
For the IP address, right-click the playlist/button that this radio uses to get people to connect to their stream.
Choose Copy Shortcut. Then, in Winamp, click Ctrl + L, and in the box, paste the shortcut. You should see the station's IP in there.
As far as banning them, check the shoutcast help files, I think it explains to you how to do it.

OK, let's keep it simple :)
Do you have a link to the station/person you'd like to ban ?

Dear Twilightseer,
That is my problem no 1. I need to first somehow identify "WHO" is this listner(the theif who listens to my "live" internet radio station, records the songs, and then broadcasts it on his/her radio station, that is a commercial convetional radio station) All I can guess is, out of all the listeners, this thief might be listening to my broadcast the longest, thus I have identified one or two possible IP address, but i do not want to ban a genuine listener/s.
In short, I do not know WHO out of all my listeners is this theif and how should I identify? I dont have a link, is there a way to find out after I know this persons IP address? I just know the location(city) where this theif is located, and thats the only thing I know.(because he is in the city I live in itself)
Thank you again, I really appreciate your time and efforts!
God Bless you guys who help dumbos like me! ;)

No prob.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the "thief" steals some of your stuff and then airs on their station. Therefore, I think that your thief is none other than this station owner. Where is the station where he airs some of your stuff ? :)

Dear Twilightseer
You are absolutely right about the "theif", so i do not need to correct you! ;)
The radio station is located in Toronto, Canada.
Is there a way one can find out where would a listener be located in, after knows their IP address?
Also I thought of another option, would there be a way that to have a username and password before they enter into my website to listen to my radio station, and i will also not have myself listed in the shoutcast directory ( or there would be no point in having username and password :> )
But then I dont know how to do this, I do develop webpages with microsoft frontpage 2000, is there any easier solution, or already existing software,
Thank you once again for your help, its very much appreciated.

Sean

What's the name of the station, do they have a website ?
You mean they air your stuff on an actual radio station (not a shoutcast one) ?

Dear Twilightseer,
Yes, they air my stuff on an actual radio station, its a side band of FM 107, that means only people who have a radio unit that is fixed with a special chip can listen to it. Unfortunately I do not know if they have a website or not, I believe they have just launched, as keep on repeating songs over and over again, not at all a good collection of songs they have, thus are stealing my songs!
I dont think they(Side Band) have a website, but I am not sure! Though the FM 107 might have their own website, but usually a side band frequency is leased to sombody else, and these somebody else is unknown to me.
Is there a way to find out where a listner is located from their IP address?
Please Help!

Sean

chaatpapri,
Twilightseer pointed out this thread to me - there might be a couple of things taht you could do.
1. Why dont you record your own 20 or 30 seconds of mp3, advertising your station, and play it every 5 songs or so. That way, if they are recording your stream and transmitting it, then they'll also transmit your station advertisement, otherwise they'll have to go to the trouble of editing out all your advertisements - something that they won't want to go to the trouble of doing.
2. You can find out the approximate location of the IP using traceroute. Open up a DOS prompt, and type
C:\>tracert ***.***.***.*** (whatever the IP happens to be)
This will tell you every node betwen you and that IP. The last node should be his ISP.

Dear Major Dude ;)
Thank you for your suggestion, the trace has been a bit helpful.
I have a question, just as one has an intro file, that plays when a listener logs on, is there a way to have an MP3 also file play while playing a song, I mean both together! I did hear something similar, where a small there/four words mentioning the website were audible inbetween a song, though not very loud, just faintly blending in with the music, is there a way one can do this, if yes then how :>
I will be more than happy to do that,, that way it would be pointless recording my songs at all!
Secondly, is there a software freely available, by which i can have a username and password facility incorporated in my website, that will also keep a log of each listener, songs listened to, total listening time per listener, and cumulative of all listeners, etc. If not..lets do it guys.. you can definately develop something like this and..this would be just a great software much needed for the market...and dont forget to give me credit for innnovating the idea of this software ;)
Your help is deeply appreciated!
Regards
Sean
