I tried to follow the directions for setting up a station on the shoutcast page and downloaded several programs that they recommended, but nothing seems to work. Would someone please walk me through the process step by step. I would really appreciate any help that anyone can give me.
Thank You,
Geoffrey

First off, who is hosting your stream?? Are you setting up your own server or what??? This can help me understand.

I wasn't sure what I wanted so I thought I would try to set everything up on my machine just to see if I could make it work and then I would use someone elses server after I figured out how to make the internet station work. But anyways, If you can help that would be great!! Thanks Duane

You could do that, or you could set up your own SHOUTcast server (It all depends on your internet connection). Setting up your server is easy (try configuring your own web server) even easier if you use something other than the SHOUTcast server. But back to the subject, try updating your soundcard's drivers or possibly your soundcard (This is not so much recommended, but a suggestion). If you are just doing basic audio streaming, then just open up the SHOUTcast DSP plug-in and set up your music playlist and click "Connect". If no audio, try downloading the nstools.exe from the Broadcast download page at http://www.shoutcast.com/download/broadcast.phtml . If you cannot connect, try asking your friend to turn on his server. If it is another error, then tell me and I will look for some help.

Ok, I was going through all the directions on the shoutcast again and discovered a step that didn't work right for me. I tried to extract the DSP broadcasting tools to the WimAmp plugins folder but nothing shows up. Why not? Is it because the DSP file is an .exe? I have Winzip and Netzip if you are good with either of those programs could you give me a suggestion please?
Thanks,
Geoffrey

What version of Winamp/SHOUTcast do you have???? Well, the SHOUTcast DSP plug-in is using an installer so winzip has nothing to do with it. But did you install the plug-in in your DSP folder in winamp??? Did you change your dsp folder for winamp. If so, then you must change it back, or just move plug-in to the DSP folder.

P.s. Netzip is Spyware, it sends user stats to it's corprate headquarters at Real Networks. Just to let you know.

I am using the current version of Winamp that I just redownloaded again. I double clicked on the shoutcast-dsp-1-8-0-windows.exe that I downloaded and told it to go into the winamp plugins folder but when I go and open up the Winamp player and click on >options>prefrences then highlight the DSP/Effects on the tree then nothing shows up in the right pane. I can't figure it out. By the way, thanks for the tip about the spyware. I think that I'll switch to just using WinZip.

Ooooooooh. Do you have other DSP plug-ins???? And Have they worked??? If not, then you may need to re-download Winamp(But Don't do it right away). Has other Plug-ins work (General, Visualization, etc.)? Is the DSP folder the same as the regular plug-ins??? If you answered yes to the following, the I don't know. It should work, you may need to re-download Winamp.

Ok, I began to redo everything. I redownloaded winamp and installed the dsp plugins and this time it worked just fine. However, I got a little confused when trying to configure the shoutcast broadcasting plugin. The directions on the web site said that I should "Please contact the system adminstrator for the IP number and the Port of the SHOUTcast server you wish to connect to". Do you know who this system adminstrator is that I am supposed to contact? Am I misunderstanding something? Anyways, please let me know if you've got any ideas.

So now you have the plug-in working. Now you need a host for your stream. Do you have a high-speed internet access??? If so, then you can host it yourself. If not, then try a free one like live365.com
