Hi, I just set up a shoutcast server on my home PC that I was hoping to enjoy while at work. The server is fine. However when I connect from work I get horrible skipping every second or two. It's a fat T1 connection and I've also tried many other shoutcast servers since. All of them, no matter how small the stream, skip in this manner. Winamp is configured to use my offices proxy server. I assume that the proxy sever is sending the packets too slowly and ruining the stream. Do proxy servers generally ruin Shoutcast streams? Come to think of it I haven't had problems streaming radio that uses Realplayer. Am I out of luck with my Shoutcast project?

I think the diffence between shoutcast and Real is that the RealPlayer caches streamed parts from proxies while playing them and WinAMP not. So you get the data from WinAMP direct from the Proxy and from RealPlayer out of the reorderd player cache. Most Proxies are not able to stream data. Ask your admin on that. ;-)

Cheers,
Joe

Can Realplayer play shoutcast streams? I wasn't able to connect. Are there any other players I could use?

Craig,

You're so close...just point your browser to http://www.winamp.com and download the Winamp MP3 player this message board supports.

Thanks - I do have the latest version (2.76) and it doesn't work well behind my company's proxy. Works fine any where with a direct connection. I need to find a player that supports the shoutcast stream and a proxy server.

Have you setup the HTTP Proxy (server:port) field under [Option][Preferences][Setup][Internet Settings]?
