Well I must say i took quite some getting used to, but now you know where everything is, the forums have become even easier to use and have more features.

The buddy list works as follows. Just click the buddy button on the post of someone you wanna add to your buddy list. Then go to "My Control Panel" and you can see a list of all your buddies. You can send Personal Messages (PM) to them via that screen, or you can just click the pm button under someone's post.

the buddy button, from what i have concurred, allows you to make a list of your buddies... when you click the 'my control panel' button, you can see a list of your buddies... this allows you to quickly send a PM to someone on ur buddy list, rather than searching for a post by this person and clicking the Private Message thingamaroo...
and isnt kinda odd that sarge's website has a link directly on the message typing thingamaroo box?

Could still be, lots of levers and switches to play with on VB2, the admin and mods are just seeing how everything works at the minute, it's a bit like the secret forum.... oh I said to much ;)

This forum does run a hell of a lot faster on my machine than the last one. Simon? It'll take you just as long to get used to this mess, as it would take you to get used to any other basic, windows based program.

I don't know about all this stuff... Profiles, buddylists, "personal messages (pm)"....
its starting to hit way too close to my AOL spot....

.. the downfall of AoL was that it became too easy to use, enticing the morons, immature children, immature adults, freaks, weirdo's, and people who think its "OK" to harm themselves and others.
Anyone else remember when AOL was a rich man's toy?

its bad enough our skin sections are flooded with frightening displays of skinner.exe skins... I hope the forum doesn't attract "as much" attention.

Cos avatars are bleh and cluter the place up, they were voted out backstage, bleh, bleh and once again I say bleh ! :)

Besides if you want a funky avatar stick it in your sig line :)

and there was a open discussion in general where most people say: "or a avatar or a sig" and not both.:D

<uhm> what's an avatar, anyway ???

Mr Jones

A funky little image that lives under your name next to your post, go look over at deviant art, they have them over there. There was some talk about putting some official avatars on the board for people to chose, but hey why bother, if you want a funky image, you can do that in your sig line, least in there you can choose to turn it on or off on every post, avatars would have been on every single post you made, slowing up the board, and making it look , ick.

:) seems it's just an uncustomizable sig or something like that ? Don't think I would have need for that ;)

BTW - I like the quotes in your sig, they are really funny :D

seems like a good idea to put some of those in my sig aswell. :D
problem is i want it to change every time, and i guess that would mean a java script. :(

Mr Jones

Scripting in sigs is I belive disabled in VB2, security reasons.

I suppose you could link to a picture that is changed at certain intervals from a different site. Or every time it's acessed? Can you do that?

simon snowflake
13th August 2001, 15:54
that would be cool, but i don't know if it can be done. And if it can be done i don't know how.

me either.. was thinking of such sig.. but i dont know how.. since your sig cant be some sort of webby.. was thinking of a sig with diff color bg every time.. but not possible with just a jpg or gif or png

Mr. Bojanglez

you could have a random content script that displayed a random image each time,

Mr Jones
14th August 2001, 07:55
That's true, and would work on a web site with the code embedded, I have such a script somewhere, but you would still stuggle I think to call it remotely onto here, the [img] tag, only allows for known image formats to be used, the old trick of sticking a url to a php generated image no longer works.

heh, you could have an animated gif with a 24 hour time delay between frame changes I suppose, that way it would change at least once a day, don't think the time change add's anything in the way of size to a .gif. Make a 30 frame image, with a time span of, oh god I dunno whats 24 hours broken up into milliseconds and image link that.

Extreme way to do it I guess.

Or another way you could do it is, ummmm upload a shit load of image to a server, and errrr, go edit your profile at the start of each day to change the image link, would take what , about 30 seconds ?

Either would work, have fun , I can't see image sigs any longer, should try turning them off the boards look lovely and clear without them on :)
