do people connect using dns your own ip or what

People cannot seem to connect to my stream:confused: i have asked a friend to try connecting to my ip address no luck:( :( i have asked him to try the dns ip? no luck - can somebody please tell me how people are to connect to your stream - as im a thick:D id appreciate lamens terms - also what sort of script do i put in the link on my web site.

Assuming you are streaming to a Shoutcast server first have them connect to the server and the proper port
